Untitled[edit]

Cut from article:

In the summer of 2005 Edgar Winter will be performing at Retrofest in Chilliwack, British Columbia, with Rick Derringer, Blue Öyster Cult, Jefferson Starship, and It's A Beautiful Day.

Did it happen? If so it should be put in the past tense.

There is a link on the article page ostensibly to the Edgar Winter Group that simply links to the same page. There doesn't appear to be a separate page for the group.

What are the odds?[edit]

I wonder what the odds are that two brothers would both be albinos. Presumably less than would otherwise be implied by the prevalence of albinism in the general population, since Edgar and Johnny's parents obviously carried the necessary genes, but I'd still think it would be rather rare. Do they have any siblings who aren't albinos? Could be interesting tidbits to add to the albinism mention. Jerry Kindall 05:49, 30 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Parents who both carry the gene for albinism types that affect the skin, hair and eyes, the odds of having a child with albinism is 1 in 4 for every birth. The albinism article covers this in depth, not sure if any additional information is needed within the articles about Edgar or Johnny Winter. Allyddin Sane 11:12, 6 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I want to know if their parents or anyone else in their family are albinos?--Hailey 23:57, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks[edit]

Thanks to whoever added the source on the scientology statement. Way to go!—Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.64.135.169 (talkcontribs)

The author of the part of the article pertaining to scientology not only writes in the first person he also criticizes both scientology and edgar winter and expresses personal beliefs that are both informal and entirely uninteresting (no one cares what some editor thinks about scientologists.) Therefore i propose deleting the statement of personal beliefs only and nothing else as long as proper citation is provided.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.74.237.179 (talkcontribs)

Umm.... huh? I don't know which user you're referring to, but either way all that's important is what's in the article, and nothing in the Scientology section of it that I can see violates NPOV. It should be noted that there has been some vandalism of that section recently (see previous edits from anonymous IPs), but right now it looks fine to me. If you disagree kindly quote some of the offending sentences. Thanks. Fractalchez 04:31, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
71.74.237.179 (talk · contribs) writes, "Therefore i propose deleting the statement of personal beliefs only and nothing else as long as proper citation is provided". I will second the motion by Fractalchez and summarily reject your proposal. The article properly cites its sources for the claims that are made. Vivaldi (talk) 01:51, 18 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merge with Edgar Winter Group?[edit]

The Edgar Winter Group article really has nothing to add to this one. Why not just add a REDIRECT or something? If people agree then I'll go ahead and do it. Sillywebby 11:43, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes and why don't we just redirect Dave Matthews band to Dave Matthews and the Beatles to Paul McCartney? The band is only an extension of the lead singer, right? How about instead of just getting rid of it we improve it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.246.77.146 (talk) 23:01, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Edgar Winter and Meat Loaf

Edgar Winter is also listed in the credits for Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell...Edgar played the saxophone.

Re: "Yes and why don't we just redirect Dave Matthews band to Dave Matthews and the Beatles to Paul McCartney? The band is only an extension of the lead singer, right?":

Um...Paul McCartney was not the leader of the Beatles. The leader, founder, and creative force of the Beatles was John Lennon. Although all four Beatles also took turns singing lead, John Lennon sang lead more often than the other three. Indeed, producer George Martin's original plan was to have Lennon sing lead on all Beatles recordings. Your comparison would make a lot more sense if you had substituted John Lennon for Paul McCartney, but it still wouldn't be a very good comparison considering that the Edgar Winter Group is actually named after Edgar Winter.

Um... how about not starting statements with "Um" or its fascinating variations like "Ummm"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.73.121.13 (talk) 21:19, 1 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

The article Edgar Winter Group is really sparse and should be merged to this more developed article. --Ichabod (talk) 03:03, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Contradiction[edit]

How are Edgar and Johnny twins if Johnny is two years older than Edgar? William Rehtworc (talk) 18:01, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why is this article so one-sided?[edit]

"A child prodigy who achieved international success early on, Edgar has found an audience in every major entertainment medium--music, film and television." "With over 20 albums and numerous collaborative efforts to his credit, Edgar Winter has not been satisfied to ride the wave of popular music stardom." "Edgar Winter's live shows consistently receive rave reviews. His music is always evolving and he is a master at stretching his skill and imagination to produce amazing results. He continues to thrill audiences with his live performances, always remaining on the cutting edge of music and style. Edgar is now at the very top of his game, and his future looks even brighter than his past."

These are kind of extreme and totally unverifiable statements. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cs2aqcs2aq (talkcontribs) 01:32, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure when that last part slipped in, but you were right to remove it - that's just pure puffery. Gavia immer (talk) 01:51, 9 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The down side to being one-sided is that readers' distaste for such juvenile self-indulgence will drive them elsewhere for their information. "By the time Edgar Winter left his hometown of Beaumont, Texas, in the 1960s, he was already technically proficient in every aspect of music." Every aspect? What about fugal polyphony? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Orthotox (talkcontribs) 07:41, 31 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Discography[edit]

I wonder why none of the albums he did with Johnny are credited here. He was credited on all the albums. Strange — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.200.27.63 (talk) 23:19, 8 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edgar Winter's claim that he invented the keytar[edit]

Edgar Winter claims that he invented the keytar, but I'm reluctant to add it to the text because he does so while onstage, making this comment in a You Tube video, which is here: [1] If this were true, it would be huge. What do other editors think? --Leahtwosaints (talk) 15:47, 7 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Scientology[edit]

Why does this article appear to have been completely scrubbed of references to Winter's religion other than the singular brief mention of Mission: Earth? Surely there's room for something about that under 'Personal Life', at LEAST, right? --73.232.146.130 (talk) 03:14, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Plagiarism[edit]

I've been working on inserting references in this page, my favorite Wiki task. In doing so, I found that, in numerous areas, Edgar Winter's official biography, located at http://www.edgarwinter.com/bio.php, was copied word for word. I'm doing my best as I go through to change instances of that, but you can often Google sentences from this article and, after WP, the first suggestion will be its verbatim source on his official side. I don't think this is a one-night, or even one-man, job, so I ask for help in modifying said quotes to resolve said plagiarism. Since the article relied HEAVILY on that biography until I started adding citations, I added the BLP one source tag, for now. Thanks! FireWalkWithMe27(talk) 23:33, 22 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Took me longer than most things I've voluntarily done, but I added appropriate citations galore. Thus, the issue with relying too heavily on that source is moot. I changed the instances where I found plagiarism, but I'm sure there's still plenty in this article. Hopefully I've gotten it into much healthier shape than before. His brother?[edit]

There is no mention of his brother. Weird. 24.56.179.244 (talk) 01:59, 4 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
