TOC[edit]

This article is cribbed wholesale from the U.S. State Department's Background Note on Hungary from August, 1999. Therefore, it appears to be not only obviously out-of-date, but also plagiarized. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.232.231.31 (talkcontribs) 02:39, 24 October 2006.

I have deleted the questioned part and am in the process of writing a new one. Mrgann (talk) 20:21, 22 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please add more info about the high amount of tax evasion in Hungary. It's a real problem and prevents the country from developing.--Sonjaaa 12:27, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The cited source [1] does not contain the data: GDP $225.5 billion (PPP, 2013 est.) and GDP growth 2.2% (Real, 2013 est.), only GDP $125.5 billion (2012 fact) [2] and GDP growth -1.7% ([3]. This should be fixed. 78.139.0.254 (talk) 16:16, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Present-day Hungarian economy =[edit]

Hungary's economic situation has not changed quite significantly since 2011. Is there a usual badge that we could put on the page that it is seriously outdated to warn the readers until a competent editor contributes the updates?

Simply, this is short article on part of the history of the Hungarian economy. It would be better served as part of this article placing the information in a wider context. Nuttah68 19:30, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm am not sure exactly the protocol here, but I agree that the two articles should be merged. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.177.65.23 (talk) 22:53, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have created a separate History of the Hungarian economy page because I believe that a) this is an extremely long chunk of text b) has a different purpose: this page should serve as an overview of the current state of the economy and only contain a shortened historical part. Group project on Economy of Hungary[edit]

Hi. There are going to be major changes in this Wikipedia article. Our English class decided to make this article better, preferably a Good or Featured Article. It is a four man (woman) project, including myself, with the help of our teacher, and of course, with the help of you. We would appreciate any help, comment, suggestion, criticism. You have my support :-) varbal (talk)

GA[edit]

I have quickfailed this article as a GAN, because it obviously and clearly has no chance of passing. Many sections are completely unreferenced, the language is partisan and inappropriate, the lead section is too short and the prose is poor. Ironholds (talk) 18:42, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Questionable Sentence in the Lede[edit]

User Hortobagy tries to add the following sentence to the lede: "However, Hungary's recession deepened in the last 5 years.". This claim doesn't have any place in the lede, since: (1) it was a personal opinion of an analyst, not a solid fact; (2) its obsolete (10 months old), and the Hungarian Economy produced the 3rd fastest growth in the whole European Union in Q1 2013 (0.7%); (3) this article is about a general overview of the Hungarian Economy and not a newspaper or a collection of arbitrary subjective opinions, especially not in the lede. Please, reply to my argument before replacing that sentence. Cheers, KœrteFa {ταλκ} 20:26, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Are you serious? First, please note that: Google searches are not valid sources. Second, recently there were two *global* financial crises (one of them may still be here), of course Hungary was also deeply affected (like most of the countries in the world). However, the latest growth data shows that this may not be the case any more [4]. Third, more importantly, the lede is no place for cherry-picked, obsolete information. KœrteFa {ταλκ} 21:05, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hahhh, so you admit I was right. Yes, Hungary is in recession and this has to explained there, up in the front. Hortobagy (talk) 21:07, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It *was* in recession. Of course, you are welcome to write a section in the article about how the global financial crises affected Hungary, but then you should consider several facts and try to give a balanced, neutral and broad overview of these events. Of course, using reliable sources is also essential. Sadly, you just cherry-picked the title of an article and placed it in the lede. Unfortunately, that's not acceptable. Cheers, KœrteFa {ταλκ} 21:20, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Because it resumes so well the current situation. No lies please. Hortobagy (talk) 21:22, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Please, consider seriously answering my arguments. Writing *some* reply does not mean that you have addressed the arguments at all. Talking about "lies" does not help our discussion either. Why do you want to insert that one cherry-picked sentence? KœrteFa {ταλκ} 21:30, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Because the general opinion and mass-media and investors have this opinion : that now Hungary is in big problem. This is a fact and has to be reflected in the article. Don't ask me to provide more references from Financial Times or other... because I can. Hortobagy (talk) 21:36, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome to contribute to the article in a balanced and neutral way. You can, of course, chose your sources, but don't just put one sentence without providing a wider picture. Cherry-picked information based on half truths, especially if they are obsolete (since you are talking in present), have no place in the lede. KœrteFa {ταλκ} 21:51, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. Hortobagy (talk) 20:52, 20 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

External link to tariff data[edit]

Hello everyone, I am working for the International Trade Centre (ITC), a UN/WTO agency that aims to promote sustainable economic development through trade promotion. I would like to propose the addition of an external link (http://www.macmap.org/QuickSearch/FindTariff/FindTariff.aspx?subsite=open_access&country=348&source=1%7CITC) that leads directly to our online database of customs tariffs applied by Hungary. Visitors can easily look up market access information for Hungary by selecting the product and partner of their interest. I would like you to consider this link under the WP:ELYES #3 prescriptions. Moreover, the reliability and the pertinence of this link can be supported by the following facts 1) ITC is part of the United Nations, and aims to share trade and market access data on by country and product as a global public good 2) No registration is required to access this information 3) Market access data (Tariffs and non-tariff measures) are regularly updated

Thank you, Divoc (talk) 09:31, 28 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. Simonovits's comment on this article[edit]

Dr. Simonovits has reviewed this Wikipedia page, and provided us with the following comments to improve its quality:

I have no found any grave error. It is quite schematic, the reader would not find any important difference from Slovakia or Romania. As a destructive critique: try to avoid ranking, since they are meaningless. To give an example: It is better to be the last in LEXP within EU with 90% of the maximal LEXP rather than to be the second with 80% of the maximum.

We hope Wikipedians on this talk page can take advantage of these comments and improve the quality of the article accordingly.

We believe Dr. Simonovits has expertise on the topic of this article, since he has published relevant scholarly research:

Non neutral language[edit]

GDP per capita data is not right[edit]

GDP per capita data is not right. Currently, Hungary's GDP per capita in nominal is around 18,900$, while in PPP it's around 42,000$. Keehnan455 (talk) 18:50, 16 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
