Illegality of Film Ventures distribution[edit]

An anonymous user just added some "trivia" claiming that Film Ventures International's repackaging and distribution of this film was illegal. Do we have a source for this, or is this just someone's suspicion? ~ Jeff Q (talk) 05:53, 24 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I am unsure, but I do not believe that Film Ventures International's version was illegal; they usually acquired distribution rights to versions of films that had lapsed into the public domain. The U.S. television version had perhaps lapsed and Film Ventures acquired it. The version would probably be illegal today, but was not so at the time. I have removed the term 'illegal' from the trivia for the time-being until this information can be verified. Altayr 03:58, 21 October 2005 (PST)

Official title[edit]

Honestly, how dumb are you people? The official title is EBIRAH, HORROR OF THE DEEP. That is where the real article should be, and that is what is linked to from the Godzilla (film series) page. DUDE, SHUT THE HELL UP. I swear to God, people like you have NO place editing these pages. You want evidence? If you were intelligent enough to check the GODZILLA FILM SERIES page, you'd see that all of Toho's official titles are listed, and it is EBIRAH, HORROR OF THE DEEP, not GODZILLA VS. THE SEA MONSTER. You want more evidence? Go buy the fucking Godzilla Compendium. Or check the copyright records at the Library of Congress. Seriously, you know nothing, so go edit a page on checkers or Go Fish or something that your brain is capable of handling.

I see no links, no ISBNs, no UPCs, no specific Library of Congress data, nothing that constitutes a reliable source in the above diatribe. The closest this person seems to come to a legitimate, practical point is mentioning "the GODZILLA FILM SERIES". If by this he means Godzilla (film series) (that's what we Wikipedians call a useful link), he should note that Wikipedia articles are not reliable sources, because anyone can edit them at any time, as this editor did himself just before referring to it.[1] (See Wikipedia:Reliable sources#Some definitions for more information.) It's the sources that back up articles that make the information useful, and it is this he refuses to provide, preferring instead to deliver apoplectic insults. I see no reason to pursue complaints from someone whose talk page demonstrates an desire to rant rather than research, to vandalize rather than verify. Two points, DaxterKing. First, please sign your talk-page posts with four tildes (~~~~), so that readers know who is commenting and when. Second, all of the titles given in these articles are valid; the question is what title Wikipedia should use as its primary one. There is a substantial amount of research on this topic at Talk:Ebirah, Horror of the Deep. Please read this before making further arguments. FYI, I recently posted all the information from The Official Godzilla Compendium that is relevant to this film's title to the discussion at Talk:Ebirah, Horror of the Deep#"Ebirah" vs. "Sea Monster". In short, Compendium insists on the Ebirah title, as 24.23.126.230 and DaxterKing argue. There is still plenty of reason to support Sea Monster per Wikipedia policy, as described in that discussion, but at least the Ebirah argument has some cited evidence rather than just angry invective now. Release country in the infobox[edit]

I do not think we should be removing the release country in the infobox. I know WP:FILMRELEASE states to include the earliest release in the country. However, this is not obvious for the majority of readers. I do not think it hurts to note that this the Japanese release date. As several of the japanese science fiction artiles are a mess on wikipedia, we might as well try to make things as clear as possible when we can. Andrzejbanas (talk) 12:18, 18 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
