Ealdorman of York[edit]

The above page redirects to this page, although the first Earl listed on this page was appointed by King Stephen. I suggest that Ealdorman of York should be a page in its own right, covering men like Oslac of York (fl. 966–975) Thored (fl. 979–992) and Ælfhelm of York (c. 994- 1006). It would thus be a counterpart to the section of Rulers of Bamburgh which covers Eadwulf of Bamburgh (floruit 963–973) and Waltheof of Bamburgh (floruit 994). In other words, there would be separate succession lists for the period between Osulf I of Bamburgh and Uhtred the Bold. Alekksandr (talk) 22:43, 4 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Makes sense. Alternatively, you could just add a section on the ealdormen to this page. Either way, "Ealdorman of York" should not redirect to a page that says nothing about the ealdormen of York. Srnec (talk) 04:15, 5 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest that the list should also include (1) Uhtred's successor in York Eric Haakonsson (1016-23), and (2) Eric's successor in York Siward, Earl of Northumbria, who was Earl of York but not Earl of Bamburgh from at least 1033 to 1041. In other words, apart from Uhtred's decade-long tenure of both posts from 1006 to 1016, Bamburgh and York each had a separate earl/ealdorman from the death of Osulf I of Bamburgh by 963 until Siward became Earl of Bamburgh in 1041.
