Interesting enough, I don't a family tree. My friends are often mixed up about the Earls/Dukes of Northumberland, and a family tree might clear some things up. Any takers?

Between Robert de Mowbray and the Percys, there were three men called "Earl of Northumbria" or "Earl of Northumberland": Henry of Scotland, 3rd Earl of Huntingdon, King William I of Scotland, and Hugh de Puiset. When there is a new creation of an earldom, we number from that creation. Thus, Henry Percy, listed as 2nd Earl of Northumberland, is actually Henry Percy, 1st Earl of Northumberland (of the second creation). And subsequent earls are numbered accordingly, until there is a new creation. (Cf. the current Duke of Edinburgh, called the 1st Duke of Edinburgh, though the title has been carried by others in the past.) ScottyFLL 13:47, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Lord Percy Percy[edit]

I suppose some reference to the Blackadder character Lord Percy Percy would be out of the question? I mean, I was actually surprised not to see one on this page... or the Duke of Northumberland one for that matter Sk8a H8a 08:11, 9 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Algernon Percy, the 10th Earl, did NOT fight for the king in the Civil Wars. He was actually one of the highest ranking nobles to turn and fight for parliament. The reference needs to be changed. Brakbudy (talk) 00:51, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
