Egglescliffe Primary School[edit]

Reverted the alteration from 'St Johns Primary' back to 'Egglescliffe C of E' - the name the school itself uses [1] as well as the name used predominantly by locals, when not calling it 'Butts Lane' school. Though the school is very near St. John's church, and uses it on occasion, it isn't named after it. Joistmonkey 09:48, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

External links to geograph.org.uk[edit]

There are two links (that I see at present) that go to photos on the website mentioned above. I have two problems with these links so would like to discuss them here.

Firstly, the links are bound to text that does not seem correct. For example, the first photo - of the cafe at Preston Park - is linked through the word 'north'. That's completely useless in terms of describing what the link is.

Secondly, why are these links even mixed into the body of the article? They either need to be placed at the bottom of their respective sections or even at the bottom of the whole page. --SmartShark (talk) 02:17, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There are a number of these in various articles, not just this one, that use the link to give an illustration of the item being described. Rather than having the image in the article, having to go and locate it via some gallery or via some external link at the end of the article which makes it more difficult to know there is an illustration of the item. I am not saying I am for or against it just explaining what I think is the reasoning behind it. Keith D (talk) 19:16, 13 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, it was remiss of me to say that I really do like the inclusion of the links. My main concern is only that the link text is frequently not descriptive or indicative of the destination. This would be a mistake on any website, let alone on an encyclopaedia.
If I were to edit such links to be more descriptive, would anyone raise an objection?

I can see no objection to improving the link description go ahead and improve them. It would also be good to get the images on to commons at some point. Keith D (talk) 00:09, 15 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tetley Tea made by the Tees[edit]

Although I find this comment amusing, I'm not sure it should be present. 86.18.63.231 (talk) 20:29, 24 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You're right it's not encyclopedic so I've changed it Fraggle81 (talk) 20:59, 24 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
