As EMG 85 is an active humbucker, its two coils are not just connected in series or parallel with single output. Instead, they have two separate outputs and are summed electronically in the preamp

This is just wrong. The coils in active humbuckers are connected all the same, before the preamp. Otherwise the pickup still would be noisy. The difference is that there are much less coil windings, so not much noise is picked up. The rest of the noise is "bucked" by connecting the coils, one of them reverse poled and reverse winded, in series. After that the noise is almost gone, but also the signal. And this signal is then amplified by the preamp.

Active single coils aren't. They are actually hum cancellers (the second coil connected in parallel, not in series as in the humbucker, or they use a dummy coil, the difference is that the polepiece of the dummy coil is not magnetic). The rest is just the same.
