This article has major problems[edit]

If you think that the following unsourced statement is ok within an encyclopedia, then you should not be editing encyclopedias:

The Durant Independent School District is also known for having one of the best education systems in the state of Oklahoma and in the United States

See also the trivia section regarding the hospital. Is it really now?

This article is a good start, but it needs some help. Dirtydan667 14:32, 5 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I didn't know how to source a site, but now I do and I did it for the trivia regarding MCSO. And maybe you could help me...

Just don't expect anything to get done in a hurry in Durant, except for the pick-em-up trucks gettin' to the club !! Kind of like Jamaica...."no problem mon!" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.239.109.57 (talk) 23:48, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree about what Dirtydan667 and IP user said. I do not agree at all that Durant Independent School District being one of the best.... All educational facilities in Durant (not sure about Vision, Victory Life, and Silo) have civil rights issues, but I doubt there is notability for this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by In-Correct (talkcontribs) 23:54, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am partially rewriting this article...I am trying to get rid of the overstatements. If there is a fact that needs to be included, once is enough. Also I am getting the Trivia Sections moved to another locations in the article.

Something else: about the pick-em-up trucks gettin' to the club: I think all the clubs and liquor stores need to be added to this article. In-Correct (talk) 00:47, 8 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Silo Schools[edit]

The sentence "The city is also home to the Silo School District, which includes three schools and serves approximately 680 students, and to one of two schools in the Rock Creek School District" is a bit misleading. The mailing addresses for the schools are in the Durant zip code, but they aren't actually in the city. Narthring (talkcontribs) 04:56, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The entire article and the town and state themselves are all extremely misleading. In-Correct (talk) 05:47, 18 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As of 4/22/24 I have created a separate page for the lynching of John Lee and have properly cited and paraphrased the existing information on the Durant page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MReyes64 (talkcontribs) 02:45, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

John Lee section seems unencyclopedic[edit]

I feel that this section is encyclopedic, and doesn't fit the tone of the article. It's like a blemish to this article, and looks misplaced in it. Furthermore, it relies on the usage of one source (two, counting the mention of the Durant Daily Democrat article) to back up its point.

However, I don't feel it should be totally deleted, since it provides a scene of Durant's history, most notably the problems with racism that it had with it being a sundown town. Yet, I feel that it shouldn't be spun off into another article, as it looks too premature.

In my opinion, an entire section rewrite and additional citations would be an optimal option, as well as a reorder. Explodicator7331 (talk) 17:09, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
