Dumbarton Rail Bridge

Should Dumbarton Rail Bridge get its own separate article, or become a part of the Dumbarton Bridge article? --Will74205 09:57, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

I think maybe the Dumbarton commuter rail project should get its own page instead, or maybe both, it seems that the three sentences I helped put in this article are about all that can be said, though I suppose one could mention the fire in '98 was believed to be arson. Anyway just figured I should mention it, though it is getting linked in several pages as the rail bridge. I suppose there is the prospect of having high speed rail over the new bridge too. --JVittes 22:34, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Maybe we should try to add specific information about the rail bridge as a section to this article first, then if we can find more information and references about the rail bridge we can then separate it into a new article. --Will74205 06:28, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Dumbarton Pipeline Bridge

The third structural crossing at Dumbarton isn't mentioned anywhere. Between the highway bridge and the abandoned rail bridge, there exists the Dumbarton Pipeline Bridge. Built in the 1920s, it carries two large-diameter water pipelines that bring water from Hetch Hetchy Reservoir in Yosemite Park to the San Francisco peninsula. It is owned/run by the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission. The pipeline bridge proper does not extend all the way across the bay - the eastern portion of the crossing is underwater and underground, to allow the navigation channel without a movable span (which might not work for the water lines?). Lanes and tolls

I updated the lane information, which did not reflect the purpose of the former dedicated free carpool lane. It is now correctly listed as a toll lane, with a toll of half price during carpool hours and full fare at other times.

I also noticed that the mention of fare failed to mention what vehicles were covered. I changed it to "passenger car" for now, which is correct, but other two axle vehicles pay the same fare. Somebody should update it and provide a source for fares for various trucks, buses and other vehicles.

I didn't list a source for the change I made since none is required for material that is neither questionable nor controversial per Wikipedia rules. However, even though upwards of 40,000 people each day see the signs stating the tolls and current use of the carpool/FasTrak only lane, the toll breakdown is not listed for other types of vehicles so this needs to be updated and cited.
