currently editing related material[edit]

I am starting to edit in History of Pernambuco and will have something to say about Duarte Coelho. I will likely eventually make some edits in this article. E.g. I will want to dispute the information on the parentage of Duarte Coelho. However, while I can cite a good scholarly source, I am at this point new enough in Wikipedia that I don't know what the challenge process involves. Any pointers appreciated. Further, I am not clear on using material from the Portuguese Wikipedia. This article is clearly translated from the Portuguese article [Duarte Coelho] and while I have not read everything that I probably should have, I remember that we are supposed to indicate a copyright when we use materials from another wikipedia. Where should I look to see this copyright notice?P2dwight (talk) 14:14, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

probably editing this soon[edit]

Since there has been no discussion this is just for record. Probable changes: His ancestry is not so clear as stated. The captaincy was 6o leagues of coast not 60 miles. DC was more in allied with the Tabajara(sp) people, the Caetes were usually allied with the French He return to Portugal in 1553, then died there in 1554 I have a copy of a monograph on Duarte Coelho by a specialist. It will be my principal source. I’ll need to review it first. The current article is not wildly wrong but since it has no references, and does not always agree with the monograph, it will probably look a good deal different when I am finished. — Preceding unsigned comment added by P2dwight (talkcontribs) 14:47, 3 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Battle of Tunmen[edit]

Our article on the battle mentions that a Duarte Coelho was a Portuguese commander in the Battle of Tunmen in 1521, the first European-Chinese military confrontation. Is this the same person as here? If so, it might be worth to add corrsponding information other than just saying that he "visited China". Proofreader (talk) 11:02, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
