Accidents[edit]

article states, "On November 1 1955 a time bomb exploded aboard a DC-6 killing 44 people above Longmont, Colorado." More info should be added, who blew it up? Why? and so forth...

From what I remember from 51 years ago, a husband took out an insurance policy on his wife and put a time bomb in her luggage when she was taking a flight. That's all I remember. Possibly the first use of a time bomb on a civilian airliner? --TGC55 12:12, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

another crash that could be added to this page. Silhouette[edit]

C-118 survivor[edit]

I think that there is a C-118 in open air display at a museum on Travis Air Force Base.--TGC55 (talk) 16:24, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Accidents and incidents section[edit]

This list is now starting to engulf the article and is being separated into a sub-article. If every accident of a long-lasting transport type were listed, it would be unnecessarily long. FWiW Bzuk (talk) 13:06, 18 August 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Civil operators[edit]

This list is quite incomplete: I clearly remember my first flights in a commercial airliner; both main Airlines of Mexico (Mexicana de Aviación and Aeronaves de México) had many DC-6's many equipped with Radar, and operated them in many routes. Windows[edit]

There's a claim on the DeHavilland Comet Talk page that the windows of the DC-6 were changed from square to round "after" the tragic crashes of the Comet due to metal fatigue starting at the corners of the Comet's square windows. I can find no evidence of this and there are photos in this (DC-6) article of DC-6's with square windows dated in the 1970's. Changes to section "Operators"[edit]

Dear Wikipedians, I've removed from the "Operators" section of this article the detailed list of Civil and Military operators, to avoid duplication and reduce inconsistency with the information in the List of Douglas DC-6 operators. Proposal for "Survivors" section[edit]

Dear Wikipedians, Currenltly less than a dozen DC-6/C-118 are listed in the "Survivors" section of this article. However, given the number of exiting airframes mentioned in that section, this list has the potential to increase significantly. To avoid cluttering the main article, I propose to create a sub-article listing all known surviving DC-6/C-118 aircraft (flying, stored or exhibited). Not sure if there is a verifiable source to use as a starting point for this task; I'm happy to start this sub-article if someone can point me to any usable sources. It has been done on other articles like List of surviving Avro Lancasters although it is military it gives an idea of the format. Although note these "surviving" sub-articles are not really meant to cover aiframes still in use (rather than aircraft used for flying displays) and I cant think of any that have been created that list active airframes that would be in a list of current operators. We try not to keep a list of actual operational airframes in use by operators anywhere in wikipedia and leave that for the enthusiast websites. But I see no reason why you cant create List of surviving Douglas DC-6s but refer to the current operators list in the article. MilborneOne (talk) 10:24, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
