Merger proposal[edit]

Propose to merge the article Taradi to this article. Seems to be a common name for species in this genus. "It has received very little attention from botanists, and its species has not even been determined or named", a quote from Taradi, is unsupported by references and I could find no such statement in my own search. Taradi does not seem to refer to one specific unidentified species of Dioscorea. Mbdfar (talk) 19:19, 16 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Merging to yam (vegetable) is likely more appropriate, assuming it's eaten. That would be easier for article structure too, since the yam one already has subsections on species. --Artoria2e5 🌉 17:31, 8 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, article merged into yam (vegetable). Mbdfar (talk) 02:07, 13 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Description section[edit]

The description section is a poorly sourced mashup of descriptions of a couple different species that are commonly called "wild yam." The first couple sentences are an unsourced description of Chinese Yam talking as if it was representative of the whole genus, and then without mentioning that a different species is being discussed moves to summarizing a source about Dioscorea villosa.Arctostaphylospallida (talk) 22:15, 17 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
