Island and ship[edit]

Galiano Island, an island in the Strait of Georgia, is named for Alcalá Galiano. The Canadian warship HMCS Galiano was likewise named for him.

Actually I just assumed the ship was named for him and not for the island. I don't know. Either way it comes from the man's name ultimately. Since the HMCS Galiano shared its work with the HMCS Malaspina, and Galiano was one of Malaspina's main officers, I just figured the ship-namers had the people in mind. But I don't really know. How to rephrase the sentence? Pfly (talk) 19:11, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
