Maredudd ap Rhys[edit]

The article mentions a "Maredudd ap Rhys". Isn't the correct name rather "Rhys ap Maredudd" ? --Llydawr (talk) 17:45, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've taken a look at the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography and Maredudd ap Rhys Gryg [1] was a Welsh prince who died in 1271. His father, Rhys Gryg, took possession of Dinefwr Castle in 1216. Rhys ap Maredudd [2] was the son of Maredudd ap Rhys Gryg.
When the article states "Maredydd now allied himself to King Edward I of England" I'm pretty sure that's referring to Rhys ap Maredudd because the ODNB says in his entry "Rhys came to an agreement with the new king in 1277 and in return Edward promised (11 April) to consider his claim to Dinefwr Castle". But I think Wikipedia's article says "In 1255 Llywelyn the Last gave Dinefwr to Rhys Fychan, then later gave it to Maredudd ap Rhys" it's probably referring to Rhys ap Maredudd's father who was still alive at the time. Part of the confusion arises because there is no indication in the Wikipedia article that one has succeeded the other. Nev1 (talk) 18:08, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The Maredudd ap Rhys the article currently links to is incorrect, so I'll remove that. Nev1 (talk) 18:15, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
