Add some Devilman pics please[edit]

This page needs some pics from devilman, from the old to the new ones.

I'll add some later tonight.--Shin Kairi (talk) 01:02, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

English OVA dub[edit]

I saw a dub of the OVA (not sure if it was just the 1990 one or the 1987 and 1990 ones stuck together), dubbed by Manga Entertainment UK. It was notable by its crappy acting, overuse of profanity and fake American accents (along with the use of the word knickers). I assume the version released in the US was a completely different dub? --Zilog Jones 21:43, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure, the copy I have had terrible dubbing-- mainly overusing words like knickers, et cetera, but I was informed that it is exactly the same copy as the US release. Unconscious 13:18, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Devilman wiki needs editting[edit]

It's a bit messy, and needs better organization. I'll see what I can do with it later today. --12.201.101.76 (talk) 05:57, 9 April 2008 (UTC)Shin Kairi[reply]

Spoilers[edit]

I've read through the article, and it's full of story ruining spoilers pertaining to the OVA, Manga, and even the Violence Jack ending. These need to be removed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dorkas14 (talkcontribs) 00:23, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No. As the wiki's spoiler guideline says, "It is not acceptable to delete information from an article because you think it spoils the plot." --an odd name 18:53, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rewrite[edit]

This article probably needs a complete rewrite...I'll probably do it later. It seems to be filled with broken English and other oddities. rzrscm (talk) 11:20, 5 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Alright...I fixed it. If you want me to do anything else to make this article better, just tell me. rzrscm (talk) 11:02, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

References[edit]

I'm finding it hard to find English references to use as sources...I've scoured the internet for interviews with Go Nagai, but he doesn't seem to say much about Devilman in any of them. If anybody can find some good English reliable sources, please post them here so I can add them to the article and maybe expand it. rzrscm (talk) 18:40, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Manga Impact[edit]

Manga Impact: The World of Japanese Animation, 6 December 2010, ISBN 978-0714857411; pg 47:

Graphic violence, a profound reflection on youthful rebellion and the repression perpetuated by fearful adults are the distinctive features of Devilman (1972), Nagai Go's finest manga, in which he reworks a number of ideas from his unfinished Ma-O Dante (Demon Lord Dante, 1971). Although the man/devil dualism is integral to every incarnation of Devilman, there are striking differences between Nagai's original manga and the anime series shown the same year. In the manga, the central character, Fudo Akira, agrees to merge his personality with that of the demon Amon in order to free humanity from the scourge of demons who are about to conquer the Earth. The television version, however, uses an outline already seen in series such as Tiger Mask (1969): Akira dies while traveling in the Himalayas and his body is taken over by a demon that has come to Earth to conquer it. The demon soon after discovers love and decides to rebel against his own kind.
Although the series does not hesitate to show graphic violence and demonstrates the most untrammeled fantasy in its imaginary creatures, the anime is essentially a superhero story; the protagonist, with his double identity, undergoes spectacular transformations to combat the demons sent to kill him. His story is told in thirty-nine episodes, alongside comic supporting roles and the little amorous skirmishes typical of contemporary formats, leading up to a finale that does not resolve the conflict between Devilman and his enemies. Instead, it is mainly concerned with squaring the circle of the star-crossed love story between the protagonist and his beloved Miki. To see the 'real' Devilman on screen, audiences had to wait until 1987 when the first chapters of the manga were translated into animation for the OAV market. This much darker, more sexually oriented version of the character was developed further in Amon: The Apocalypse of Devilman, directed by Takeshita Komichi.

Improving[edit]

This article need improvement, and I think to start it, it's necessary to improve first the reception (and after other sections). Currently has only three sources for reception: one is about the English version, and isn't important for this section, another (devilworld.org) don't seem as reliable source, and the Mania is a good source according to the project online library, but it isn't enough. As I only found a good reliable source ( [1]) in internet, I star to search books and I found a lot of useful sources in English ([2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8]) as well in Italian and French. So, my doubt is if any of these sources is reliable and can be used in the article. Oh, I can use this source above (Manga Impact) or is WP:SAYWHEREYOUGOTIT? Discussion at WT:ANIME#Devilman[edit]

I just wanted to let anyone interested in this article know that there is currently a discussion about the content of this article at WT:ANIME#Devilman. Calathan (talk) 22:10, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps we would split it and make a Devilman characters article? Of course I would be counting characters from The Devil Lady and Violence Jack when I say that. That way anti-cruft people won't have cruft in the articles and a character's list would keep it separate yet intact. Yapool Seijin (talk) 14:47, 6 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
