Political and railway meanings[edit]

The two meanings given here are so diverse as to suggest this article be split - not that there is much said about either, but there is a certain amount of folklore, mythology, imagary and historical information that is available to add to the railway usage. Any comments? Lynbarn 23:24, 16 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Ffestiniog references are only to "deviation" (a classic British railway term for which many citations could be found) and to "deviationists" much used by and in reference to volunteers working on the Ffestiniog Railway Deviation and for which many citations are also to be found. However, neither railways in general nor the Ffestiniog in particular have anying to do with "Deviationism" which is a political term invented by communists. The FR and its Deviationists have no place in this article which should be deleted since all that is left is a short dictionary definition and Wikipedia is not a dictionary. If the railway references are to be retained it should be in an article called perhaps "Railway Deviation" - but not "Deviationism" for which there is no railway precident NoelWalley 11:43, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

With regard to the latest paragraph:
"Since the Ffestiniog, several heritage railways have found themselves in similar situations, and have had to muster great volunteer efforts to overcome physical and geographical difficulties."
Has any other railway preservation group undertaken a project that they have called a "deviation"? or indeed could be called a "deviation" under the established British railway usage of that term? On further reflection I see no need or purpose for this article in any form NoelWalley 12:23, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The Lynton and Barnstaple Railway has a planned deviation in its long-term plan, in order to circuvent a reservoir which now lays on part of the former route. See the L&B web site at [1] which states At Wistlandpound, the original trackbed remains intact to just past the bridge by the Calvert Trust. It is anticipated that here, just prior to the start of the deviation, a new station/halt will be constructed to serve Wistlandpound... regards, Lynbarn 21:04, 24 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
