Nickname[edit]

What is going on with the battle on the article page over the nickname "Icewater". Is this someone trying to create a new nickname on his own? Is there any source information? I found an online article in the Salt Lake Tribune dated in January 2007 discussing his nicknames and that one wasn't even mentioned. -- DS1953 talk 22:03, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I am not sure. I have removed it a few times. I have never heard this nickname from anywhere but here. Mpete510 18:04, 22 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • Some ESPN interviewer(I'm afraid I can't remember who) told Deron his nickname should be "Ice" or something along those lines. Deron just chuckled and said something like "well, if you say so, I guess so." It doesn't seem to have stuck. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ppinette (talkcontribs) 18:59, 21 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Eurochallenge stats[edit]

There seems to be some disagreement about his Eurochallenge stats. Instead of edit warring, please use this place to make your case. Thanks. Zagalejo^^^ 21:56, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There is no edit warring and there is no case to be argued. There is the official stats and the official website. [1] please do not characterize posting factual and correct information as edit warring. It's just proper and good editing and quite frankly it should not even have to be explained or discussed, after complete factual and official sources were given.173.216.237.132 (talk) 06:25, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please give User:Hellas12345 a chance to respond. Regardless of what the FIBA page says, his argument about the stats does make sense, so I don't feel comfortable dismissing him so quickly. Zagalejo^^^ 04:28, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The statistics on the FIBA EuroChallenge website are incorrect because they include EuroCup qualification games against a Dexia Mons Hainut which is a Eurocup Team now. The EuroCup statistics of players do not include the Euroleague qualification games of those players, so it does not make sense to do it for EuroChallenge players. The FIBA page simply made a mistake. The statistics on Eurobasket's Eurochallenge page [2] accurately show the correct statistics. Hellas12345 (talk) 05:31, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

All those games are FIBA games. They have nothing to do with ULEB competitions at all. If you happen to win a FIBA tournament then you can play in Eurocup. Those first 2 games have absolutely nothing to do with Eurocup or ULEB. This should not even be seen as a debate here. It's a simple fact. If those stats get posted as they were then Wikipedia is making false claims. And for the argument against that to simply be that FIBA's official website made a mistake is a bit ridiculous. To say that ULEB, a different league and organization does not count games and apply that to a DIFFERENT LEAGUE is a totally nonsensical and invalid argument. Just as it is to claim that EuroChallenge is not a third tier level league and that there is no evidence anywhere to support saying it is. I have given the evidence and the links and every single time someone simply removes them. If you want to leave it as it is now with no mention that it is a 3rd level league and no mention of his stats then fine. I guess that's how you want it. But do not be making claims that it's not a 3rd tier league and do not be making up fake and false stats please. I will post the facts once again and the sources again. Deron Williams' EuroChallenge stats from the OFFICIAL league site [3] - and please grasp that eurobasket.com is NOT an official site and never has been. It's a personally owned site and not an official one. Also, a top USA sports media website of AOL Sporting News verifying that EuroChallenge is indeed a 3rd tier league [4] notice this from that article, "EuroChallenge is the third-tier competition pitting European teams from different nations against one another." Surely, something like AOL Sporting News is a valid source for this? Well, I have added it as a source already to the Williams article before (check the edit history if you don't believe me) [5], only to have it quickly removed and the reason given being that I provided no source for such claims and that there was no evidence of it being a third tier league and in fact simply that it was not a third tier league......that's a bit strange. And saying just that since you don't know if it is or not since you don't know how basketball works in European pro leagues is no reason to make the claim that there is no evidence to say it is a 3rd tier league - especially when that league's champion promotes to Eurocup and Eurocup's champion promotes to Euroleague, thus PROVING it is a third tier league beyond any shadow of a doubt. How this can even be such a hotly contested issue here is beyond me. And a verification from the Eurocup official site itself that EuroChallenge qualify to Eurocup games are counted as official EuroChallenge games [6] - please direct your attention to the places where the article there says "Organized by FIBA Europe" and note that those games are in fact FIBA EuroChallenge games and not Eurocup games. Thus, the stats would not count as Eurocup games stats and anyone saying they do is simply wrong and the official site of Eurocup even verifies that. Finally, since the argument here seems to be that Deron Williams was somehow singled out by a "mistake by FIBA" that they counted those stats...then please explain why every single player of every single team also had those games counted in their stats also? And why the same is done every single season of the competition?173.216.237.132 (talk) 03:34, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I posted the correct stats for his international stats with the links to the official stats. TBL stats official in English --> [7], EuroChallenge stats official in English ---> [8] - he did not play in the Eurocup. Once again, the eurobasket.com website is NOT an official website and it should NOT be used as a source for the stats. Not when it is in error and the official sources are readily available and provided and added in the edits. Also, the 2 point shot FG% is not the same thing as overall FG%. You have to add 2 PT FG% plus 3 PT FG% together. You can't use simply 2 point shot attempts FG% as the overall field goal % (all shots combined). I also fixed the total stats numbers. They should be the total average of the games he played in the TBL and the EuroChallange. I had to fix them because they were almost all wrong.173.216.237.132 (talk) 07:18, 23 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This is how the correct stats should be, using official sources and the correct numbers, as they properly add up and average out. Not using incorrect stats from eurobasket.com, which is not a valid source for this:

International career stats[edit]

[1][2]

SEASON LEAGUE TEAM GP GS MPG FG% 3P% FT% RPG APG SPG BPG PPG
2011-12 TBL Beşiktaş 7 7 33.7 .500 .449 .889 3.3 6.4 0.9 0.3 19.7
2011-12 EuroChallenge Beşiktaş 5 4 34.0 .494 .486 .724 2.4 6.0 1.0 0.0 24.6
Career Various Beşiktaş 12 11 34.0 .497 .465 .787 2.9 6.3 0.9 0.2 21.8

I added this to the page, which can be viewed in this version of the article - [9] - Anyone can check the numbers, the totals, the averages, and the actual official website of FIBA EuroChallenge homepage, in the link provided, to verify that this is correct and that eurobasket.com is simply wrong. Which is no surprise as it is not an official site.173.216.237.132 (talk) 07:29, 23 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

His NBA stats.[edit]

isn't the bold in the statistics supposed to highlight is best entire season? I don't think his short stint with the New Jersey counts as an entire season, as he played most of it with the Jazz in 2010-2011... I just think they should be combined, or at least have a row above those two with his combined stats and don't count the partial seasons has "career bests". — Preceding unsigned comment added by B23Rich (talkcontribs) 22:28, 7 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
