Split article?[edit]

Does anyone agree that this article should be split? —Joe Llywelyn Griffith Blakesley talk contrib 20:23, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deposit used in banking could be split off to disambiguate the three meanings of deposit used in banking, of central bank money, the action of doing it, and commercial bank money.Andrewedwardjudd (talk) 11:26, 18 May 2011 (UTC)andrewedwardjudd[reply]

Added two other banking deposit meanings to the existing one of customer deposit account/customer deposit money[edit]

  • Deposit (monetary base), commercial banks hold cash deposits at the central bank which are used at the most liquid final settlement medium in the banking system. These cash deposits, known as reserve balances, are in the form of central bank money and are equivalent to cash. The central bank is not the owner of the central bank money but is the managing agent. These central bank money deposits then move between banks as transactions are settled. Eg 'these central bank money deposits'
  • Deposit (investor action at a bank) Eg 'they deposit cash into the bank'
  • Deposit (Money owed by a bank), the liability owed by the bank to its depositor. These deposits are not in the form of central bank money but are instead in the form of commercial bank money. Eg 'My deposit at the bank'

As a disambiguation page, this lists Wikipedia articles that cover topics that would be ambiguous with the title. It does not list all definitions or use long descriptions -- the lengthy descriptions are for the sought article, once the reader has found the article intended. -- JHunterJ (talk) 20:07, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
As i think you know the deposit disambiguation page i added was deleted. And now you appear to have totally removed the edits i made to prevent confusion when the word deposit is used. -- Andrewedwardjudd (talk) 20:14, 22 June 2011 (UTC)andrewedwardjudd[reply]
The page you added wasn't a disambiguation page. There is already a link to Wiktionary for clarifying how the word "deposit" is used other than the Wikipedia articles being disambiguated here. -- JHunterJ (talk) 21:43, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
In one of those pages it says, "The banking terms "deposit" and "withdrawal" tend to obscure the economic substance and legal essence of transactions in a deposit account." Ie the action of "deposit" and the action of "withdrawal" have a different meaning to deposit when used in deposit account.
It seems however that wiki prefers this banking term to be obsecured. Why can it not be clarified to show that deposit is obscured so that ordinary humans find it hard to know what is happening? Andrewedwardjudd (talk) 03:52, 23 June 2011 (UTC)andrewedwardjudd[reply]
