Sombo[edit]

It doesn't look like ths page gets much traffic, but here goes anyway. Does anybody have any background information on Sombo being in the 1980 Olympics? I looked at the official reports and it didn't even mention Sombo at all. There is only one site that says Sombo was competed at these games. Does anybody have any other references to back up this claim? Perakhantu 16:00, 28 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Acrobatic Gymnastics[edit]

"Acrobatic Gymnastics was a demonstration sport at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney." from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_acrobatics Here it says that there were no demonstration sports at Sydney.CJHung 10:57, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Acrobatics article is mistaken. There have been no official demonstration sports since 1992. The official reports from each Games are the reference for this. Perhaps there was an unofficial exhibition held in Sydney at the same time that the Games were on, but it was not supported by SOCOG and was not part of the Olympic program as a demonstration sport as defined by this article. Demonstration > official and vice versa[edit]

There should be some kind of text, table, or indicator to show which sports started as demonstration sports and then transitioned to official sports (e.g., I note that taekwondo is listed as a demonstration sport in the 1988 Games, but sparring was in the 2004 Games in Athens as well — my husband was a TKD student and watched avidly). A similar treatment would be given for events that were official in some Games, but became demonstration sports in later years. Lawikitejana (talk) 15:29, 11 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Military patrol[edit]

This article seems to contradict other pages. Specifically, it claims that "military patrol" (known today as biathlon) was a demonstration sport at the first (and second) Winter Olympics. However, the 1924 Winter Olympics article claims that it was an official event, either as a separate sport or as part of Nordic skiing, but certainly not a demonstration sport. Can someone sort this out? Steinbach (talk) 07:23, 4 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

From what I can gather, Military Patrol was not a demonstration event in 1924, but was a demonstration event in 1928, 1936, and 1948. I gathered this information off of the Military patrol at the 1924 Winter Olympics article, and while the claim about the 1928, 1936, and 1948 events is unsourced, the claim about the 1924 event being official is. Therefore, I will remove the 1924 event from this page and replace it with "none". Thank you for pointing this out. --FactualCollector7d1 (talk) 19:18, 8 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Chess as a demonstration sport in Summer Olympics 2000, Sydney?[edit]

There are some sources online that say that chess was an exhibition sport in the Summer Olympics 2000 in Sydney. If this is true, then the article here is inaccurate for not listing it. Should I add it, or should I wait for someone to provide better sources? Edderiofer (talk) 13:22, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Snow Volleyball at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics[edit]

Even though it apparently was organized as a publicity gimmick instead of an official demonstration sport, it would be interesting to display more information about snow volleyball at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wiscipidier (talkcontribs) 19:57, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
