Ideology[edit]

It's difficult to classify Brazilian parties, as their ideology is very diffuse and often varies from region to region, but I would say that both social-democratic and democratic-socialist could apply to individual members - although I tend to see PDT more as a populist-leaning social-democratic party, whose rhetoric is rarely matched by their actions when in power. Back in the 80s, the party was created with the goal of becoming a moderate, so-called "reformist" alternative to Communist parties, founded in the tradition of left-wing varguistas, but the emergence of PT and its closer ties to trade unions definitely shifted this alignment. So probably "social-democratic" would be more accurate.Ko'oy (talk) 12:35, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see it as more leftist, thus I would say "democratic-socialist", but if you say "socia-democratic", let it be "social-democratic"! (Also Itanesco agrees with you.) --Checco (talk) 15:29, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ideology[edit]

I thought, "Maybe I misunderstand what the word 'ideology' means," so I looked it up in Merriam-Webster and got this:

Definition of ideology

1a: a manner or the content of thinking characteristic of an individual, group, or culture

b: the integrated assertions, theories and aims that constitute a sociopolitical program

That being the case, I don't see any ideology in the Ideology section beyond, maybe, ill-defined labels. Instead, Beyond the first sentence there is just a continuation of the history of various entities' formation, naming, alliances or antagonisms, and horse race results.
