Demo Magnetic[edit]

i think we should add somewhere the Demo Magnetic tracklist, or in the main tracklist in ().

something like

Posthumous photo?[edit]

I don't think it's quite correct to describe the photo of Layne Staley as "posthumous". That suggests it's a picture of his corpse. I should think "...a photo of the late Layne Staley, formerly of Alice In Chains..." would be preferable.74.8.70.178 (talk) 13:49, 14 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Day That Never Comes[edit]

Why no mention for the video clip (music video) of that song? Yosef1987 (talk) 00:11, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Because it is mentioned in the article for the song...Arch stanton1138 (talk) 21:23, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Track lengths[edit]

So....I FINALLY got my coffin box in the mail last week, something I noticed, the CD is the european version (I deduced this because it has the Vertigo Records logo on it rather than the Warner logo).....either way, the track lengths listed on that CD are totally different from what is listed on this page, my question: what are we officially using for the track lengths on here?....Arch stanton1138 (talk) 21:10, 16 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Chart positions[edit]

I don't think we should write there all of them. 10 or so would be OK.--Deathmagnetic08 (talk) 17:42, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Unforgiven III[edit]

I has a link on this song and it just links back to the album page, no article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.104.119.161 (talk) 01:05, 4 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Release history[edit]

This section should include the fact that there is a cassette version available in Malaysia, on Vertigo with catalogue number 602517869639. 91.107.112.31 (talk) 23:43, 8 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

All Nightmare Long Single[edit]

"All Nightmare Long" als Single Collector Package!

According to Metallica.de the next single and video will be "All Nightmare Long". It must be noted here. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Deathmagnetic08 (talkcontribs) 09:39, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Must? Is that a reliable source? Rehevkor 13:40, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think Metallica.de is reliable. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Deathmagnetic08 (talkcontribs) 20:01, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How so? What are their sources? What's their editorial process to check their facts? It just looks like a fan site to me. Rehevkor 20:07, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry if this is the wrong section to put this in, but isn't "Cyanide" also a single from this album? The article lists it as a single but it's not in the Singles box at the top. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.23.171.41 (talk) 16:41, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Recording process needs "updating"?[edit]

Why do we need to update the "Recording process" section? That was a while ago, and Metallica obviously recorded the album already, so I don't see why we need to update that section if there is no more recording to be done. DisturbedTim90 (talk) 02:19, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I guess I'm just going to get rid of the tag then, since no one has replied to my post. DisturbedTim90 (talk) 00:58, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Unforgiven III merger proposal[edit]

Resolved

I have proposed the The Unforgiven III be merged into this one, if you cut out all the original research, unsourced information you're left with a list of charts (which also needs sourcing). Something which can easily be added to this article. A separate article is simply unnecessary. Irregardless of "notability". Rehevkor 21:54, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. Whilst there is some citable instances of Hetfield discussing the lyrics, this is largely OR. Thedarxide (talk) 20:07, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone have any opposition? Comments? Rehevkor 02:30, 22 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is it actually a single, or just a track? If it's a full-blown single like Cyanide is, or looks set to become that, then it should have an article of its own. If it's just a song, then it only needs an article if it is very significant to the band or for some other reason. The fact its the 3rd in the series does give it some importance, Unforgiven and Unforgiven 2 both have articles, but then again they were both singles. Tom walker (talk) 10:22, 22 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is not, at least not yet, a single. It simply charted. Other than that there has been no significant coverage to pass WP:NOTE itself, at least not that I can see. Rehevkor 15:27, 22 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Definitely merge The Unforgiven III into Death Magnetic. The only stuff that's worth keeping in that article is the sourced quote by Hetfield about the meaning of the song, and the chart positions that the song had. Even that alone is too little to establish notability or have an article. --65.2.8.186 (talk) 19:48, 23 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That quote's actually from 2004 and about the previous 2 songs, not UIII. Rehevkor 01:17, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

some interesting screenshots of Death Magnetic waveforms on my webpage[edit]

Don't know if I'm allowed to post this here but here goes - http://ajawamnet.home.comcast.net/~ajawamnet/Turn%20it%20up%20Mudderfudder.html

Feel free to grab any of this... just give me credit (that's if I ain't in trouble for even posting this here) As to the clipping, in my studio, it does not clip - I take that back - the CD rip DOES crunch a bit. The Itunes rip doesn't.

I'm wondering if some of the issues are the high RMS levels combined with the 0DBFS peak limiting and the way that playback devices post D2A stages handle this (I've discussed this a bit on the above link)

Waveform[edit]

Any idiot can go into a wave editing program and conjure up two completely different looking waveforms to get their opinion across. I can't believe that is actually on the page...really, what a joke. How can one take seriously a website that lets "Stormwatch" (who admits "I created this work entirely by myself") invent reality? Wikipedia you've done it again!

By the way, in case you want to see the REAL waveforms, check this out (GH3 version is on top, album version is on bottom): http://www.mediafire.com/imageview.php?quickkey=n5evlczejlw&thumb=4 LOL fools. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.164.44.66 (talk) 15:47, 1 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Genre caps[edit]

Per Wikipedia:ALBUM#Genre: "The one or more music genres that the album reflects, delimited by a comma should be listed here. Genres should be linked (piped linked where needed), for example, "Rock, pop" should link to rock music and pop music respectively. Note that most genres aren't proper nouns, and shouldn't be capitalized, but the first word in the list should be." If you want to contest this take it there. Rehevkor 12:20, 24 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

too long[edit]

We all know the mass amount of details included in this article cannot stay. The amount of random sourced and unsourced details make the article incredibly contemporary looking, in the way that in it could not last in a few years. We only need a basic description, reception, a few details, and sources for this article to be good, so lets wipe off the dust before a few users get alergies. What say you? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.163.21.100 (talk) 10:18, 6 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not Thrash[edit]

Death Magnetic is not thrash metal...Kill 'em all is and last time i checked Death Magnetic does not sound like thrash. Someone should just put Heavy Metal.--76.179.23.220 (talk) 22:20, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think that the album is thrash metal. ...And Justice for All was the last thrash metal album, but I think that most people in the industry would indicate that this album has many songs in the thrash metal style. Certainly, All Nightmare Long is thrash.Kbr1656 (talk) 08:11, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It has 1 thrash song + 2 other songs with snippets of thrash in them. Scapes enough "thrash" to warrant being a thrash album. Sort of. The Real Libs-speak politely 15:12, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This album is thrash metal..[edit]

Death Magnetic sounds exactly like ...And Justice for All. Listen to The Shortest Straw from ...AJFA and then listen to The Judas Kiss from Death Magnetic and tell me they don't sound the same.

I agree, most songs are definitely thrash metal featuring high tempos and distinctive riffs. That Was Just Your Life, The End Of The Line, All Nightmare Long, Judas Kiss, My Apocalypse are definitely thrash, The Day That Never Comes follows the structure of Welcome Home (Sanitarium) with fast-paced thrash section at the end. That makes at least more than half of the songs. I see no reason not to call this album thrash either. HotXRock (talk) 20:15, 24 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Guitar Hero Version[edit]

The section I created for the Guitar Hero DLC of this album, should it stay or be removed? Bramblestar (ShadowClan Leader) (talk) 00:53, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

proposing re-splitting Unforgiven III[edit]

The band even won a Grammy for it so it is definitely notable enough to merit its own article. Nergaal (talk) 10:09, 1 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The intro paragraph has an error, "....And Justice" was not produced by Bob Rock.[edit]

1988 And Justice For All was produced by Flemming Rasmussen —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.18.127.34 (talk) 05:16, 5 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I read this wrong too and fell for it. It says Death Magnetic is the first once since ...And Justice to *NOT* be produced by Bob Rock. I mis-read it and took it that it was saying And Justice was included in the group of albums that Bob Rock did.

It needs slightly clearer wording. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.137.120.202 (talk) 04:50, 20 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Guy[edit]

Rizky88 you created the page Hi Guy, Which redirects here. Vchimpanzee, you added a hatnote acknowledging the redir. FlightTime tagged the redir page for speedy deletion as a test. i ahve declined the speedy as this looks intentional, but there is no obvious reasdon for the redir. Is "Hi Guy" some sort of slogan or meme or catch phrase associated with Death Magnetic? Why should it redirect here? If there is a good reason, "Hi Guy" should probably be mentioned in the article. Please help me and other readers understand. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 00:05, 26 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

DESiegel, "Hi Guy" is the working title of one of the songs on the album (see the deluxe edition section), but I don't exactly know if Rizky88's motivations for creating the redirect were reasonable. There is no reason why it needs to be mentioned elsewhere in the article, and I think the redirect should have been deleted. 4TheWynne (talk contribs) 00:55, 26 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, 4TheWynne, I missed that. Perhaps the redirect should be deleted, but it is not a test page, and any deletion would need discussion, not a speedy deletion. WP:RFD would be the way to go. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 01:03, 26 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
