I can't help wondering if "African-American prefix" couldn't be simplified to just "prefix", although it does raise interesting questions about the dividing line between "fad" or "trend" and capital-C "Culture". Although I agree completely with the removal of the word "normal" (as in Shawn being a "normal name") I am nonetheless reminded of some of the name books we looked through when we were expecting our daughter. Some had pages on "creating Black names," and essentially told you to take a "normal" name and add "De" or "Sha" to it, or replace the i's with y's and the k's and hard c's with q's, and so on. The really funny thing was that many of these suggestions contradicted what every other section of the book told you NOT to do.PurpleChez 15:00, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
