"bump-and-grind"??? NASCAR as strip-tease, I guess. The terms are "rubbing"--as used in the movie--and "bump-drafting", which was not in the movie. --Buckboard 04:08, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Days of Thunder: The Ride[edit]

Paramount's Great America (California) had a Days of Thunder ride in their "Paramount Action FX Theater" for a while (it was fun to ride). That might be worth mentioning. I believe later they changed it to a James Bond film and it probably changed after that (I moved eventually and I haven't been there since 2000). --CCFreak2K 03:16, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Paramount Carowinds had the same ride. This should definitely be notated. FSUNolez06 (talk) 01:05, 7 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  1. Indian Film Ta Ra Rum Pum was copied from this film ---------- uuuhh, no it doesn't.

Real life comparisons Section Removal[edit]

This whole section is uncited and smack of Original Research - the only external reference is to a blog, which is hardly sufficient citation. I have removed it from the article and pasted it in its entirety below ... if anyone can find sufficient references, please cite and re-add to the article David Humphreys (talk) 01:30, 2 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

#46 City Chevrolet used by Cole Trickle.

A similar event to Trickle's intentional wrecking of Russ Wheeler happened later that season in the running of the 1990 Southern 500 at Darlington Internation Speedway, South Carolina. [citation needed] Morgan Shepherd and Ken Schrader made contact, sending Schrader into the wall. [citation needed] An angry Schrader returned to the race, and rammed Shepherd into the wall, knocking both drivers out of the race. [citation needed]

In another part of the movie, Trickle is told he can not pit because the team is too busy eating ice cream. This incident took place with Harry Hyde as crew chief and Benny Parsons as driver in the 1973 Southern 500. [1]

The scene where Big John (Fred Thompson) tells Cole and Rowdy they'll drive to dinner together is similar to a time in the 1980's when Dale Earnhardt and Geoff Bodine had a feud on the track and Bill France Jr. told them to drive to dinner together.

The Last Name "Trickle" after Dick Trickle "Multi Winner of Many Races in almost any Race Sport of the 1980s, Particularly Stock Car"

Harry Hogg (Robert Duvall) Crew Chief for Cole Trickle Based on Tim Richmonds Crew Chief Harry Hyde

Tim Diland (Randy Quaid) Typical Car Owner or Multi Race owners for Cole Trickle and Russ Wheeler Based on Rick Hendrick

Dr. Claire Lewicki (Nicole Kidman) possibly named after Alan Kulwicki, Rowdy & Cole's Doctor after the Big Daytona Crash.

Aldo Bennedetti (Don Simpson) in the Multi-colored Goody's Headache Powder # Chevrolet Lumina is most likely a reference to (Aldo Andretti). [citation needed][vague]

Rowdy Burns (Michael Rooker) Possibly based on Dale Earnhardt. The Black Exxon #51 Chevy Lumina with Red Stripe and White Letters/Numbers is pretty close to the famous Goodwrench #3 car.

Russ Wheeler (Cary Elwes) Possibly based on Rusty Wallace "Same initials & Redish Hair" or any rookie of that era. Although the Orange and Blue #18 Hardees Lumina wouldn't suggest that. Not to mention Rusty Wallace was in the movie both racewise and interviewwise.

The scene where Cole and Rowdy destroy a pair of rental cars by racing them through the city was based on actual events in which Joe Weatherly and Curtis Turner would rent cars, race them and destroy them, to the point that both received lifetime bans from rental car companies.

The Main Movie Car was a 1990 Model Chevrolet Lumina (2 Door).

The other background cars in the races were Ford Thunderbirds, Buicks, Oldsmobiles, and Pontiac Grand Prix's.

Restore[edit]

A couple of these references actually are noteworthy...most of the above is poorly-written fluff and/or speculation (a total no-no on Wiki), but a couple are well-known stories that can be cited. I think a couple can be added. Doctorindy (talk) 13:48, 27 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Trivia Section[edit]

Much of the trivia seems to fall into three categories: unsourced celebrity gossip, production-related information, and pop culture facts. I cut out much of the first, and perhaps the other two could get sections of their own rather than be stuck in a trivia section? Feeeshboy (talk) 13:46, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There are a few spots in the trivia that supposidly need citation that i can confirm true. If you want to speak of the obvious about the helmet rule in 1989. Look at Dale Earnhardt. I dont ever remember seeing him wear the full face helmet.

I cant cite it, but the fact about Hendrick Motorsports supplying the cars for the movie is true. And next time Kyle Busch is in a truck race, id like to look for the 51 scheme, that is very interesting.--RICKY 06:29, 29 November 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ricky2009 (talkcontribs)

Buddy breverton?[edit]

This article would have been more interesting to me if there was information on the charactor Buddy Breverton. He is dead before the movie starts. What I wanted to know is if this incident was based on actual events.

That section of the article where the topic of if the movie is based on actual events has been criticized for being OR, but my thinking is that some of this material is very interesting and probably there are good sources out there.

So was buddy based on an actual historical figure? If this article explained that I would likebit better. 2601:204:F000:A00:109B:76F3:636:493B (talk) 08:47, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
