More work needed[edit]

I tried to coordinate this article with that of Eleanor Calvert. I included information about his father and grandfather because those outside Virginia might not recognize the emphasis on aristocracy among members of that class in that geographical era and time, as well as to distinguish this man from others of that relatively common name. One of these days, I'll create an article about the Alexander family, for whom Alexandria was named and who held many offices there in the colonial and early national era. Frankly, I'd like to remove that block quote about the Ratification Convention, but added material explaining it instead.Jweaver28 (talk) 20:58, 14 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks for adding the material about his family! I agree that it is good to understand that people don't just pop out of nowhere (except maybe for... Alex-and-er Ham-il-ton...), they usually come from families who provide the support and connections to get ahead, especially in this period. I think this whole article could use some rewriting at this point, I agree that quote doesn't seem very necessary. Brianyoumans (talk) 21:42, 14 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested Edits[edit]

The picture displayed is not of David Stuart, but of his grandson, Dr. Richard Henry Stuart. https://lincolnconspirators.com/picture-galleries/cleydael/dr-richard-h-stuart/

David died in Alexandria, but the date was not recorded - From "The Stuart Family in America," by Mrs. Rosalie Eugenia Stuart Webster, Special Collections, University of Virginia Library.

"Dr. David Stuart who married the widow of John Parke Custis, was born at Cedar Grove, King Georg Co., VA, Aug. 3rd, 1753, and baptized on Aug 20th. The date of his marriage is not given. He died at Howard, the residence of his son-in-law Mr. Robinson, now the high school just opposite the Virginia Theological Seminary near Alexandria in 1815-16. His home was "Ossian Hall."

I'm writing a book on Dr. Stuart, any and all insights and suggestions are welcome. Mcsap46 (talk) 18:46, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Also, he was not at University of St. Andrews, but at the University of Edinburgh.

I'm new to Wikipedia, so I'm reluctant to start rewriting pages. Mcsap46 (talk) 18:50, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I would say, go ahead and do some rewriting if you want. Honestly, the article is kind of a mess at the moment.Brianyoumans (talk) 16:14, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox[edit]

I was working on the death location and somehow I messed up the code for it. Can someone tell me what I did wrong so I can fix it?

Thanks Mcsap46 (talk) 20:15, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. You missed a closing "]]" and that bolloxed up the whole thing. Infoboxes are delicate things. Brianyoumans (talk) 21:52, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
