End of ban[edit]

The reference to cycling news lists Millar's punishment as including "Two year suspension from competition from August 5, 2004 to August 4, 2006". How was he able to compete in the TDF2006, as usual a July race? barliner 15:38, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your input - and good spot! IIRC, he appealed to someone, who decided the ban should be backdated to when he confessed, which was shortly before the 2004 TdF. Fair use rationale for Image:David millar and plasma.jpg[edit]

Image:David millar and plasma.jpg is being used on this article. Grand Tour Stage Wins[edit]

I'm wondering whether to add Millar to the list of Grand_Tour_(cycling)#Most_Grand_Tour_stage_wins or not. He has 5 Vuelta wins, 1 at the Giro and 4 at the Tour now so he qualifies for the list (10 minimum, excluding TTTs). However we have the note on this page suggesting his 2003 tour stage win at Beziers has been removed from the record at his own request. If 2003 EPO boosted results are being removed I presume we would remove his 2003 Vuelta win as well though so he would only have 8 wins? The official Tour de France winners guide: http://www.letour.fr/2009/TDF/COURSE/docs/histo2009_07.pdf still lists him as the winner even though other stages have been annulled due to drug test results. Is it even possible to remove yourself from the records?And, what is the basis/citation for that note? Unfortunately the UCI homepage only has results online going back to 2004, their records would be the official version regardless of what Millar wants. I don't think it is possible to be honest but thats what the Scotsman article reports. Its only this one source which mentions it but the Scotsman does meet RS. I noted in the ITV commentary it was referred to as his 4th TdF stage win so Phil Liggett obviously hasn't removed it from his records. Millar admitted to doping in three races: 2003 UCI Road World Championships, 2003 Criterium du Dauphine Libere and the 2001 Vuelta a España (source). Don't rely too much upon the UCI's system - it is not well retroactively updated, nor do even ASO update their records very well. SeveroTC 11:49, 18 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers Severo, so that suggests that we should be excluding the two Vuelta Stage Wins from 2001 from his total but including all 4 TdF stage wins? I note we still show Millar as the Stage victor on the 2001 Vuelta page and also ASO show him as the victor on the official Vuelta 2001 historia page: http://historia.lavuelta.com/es/anio.asp?a=2001 I guess there are just so many historical doping violations that the authorities decide to leave it be as much as possible? I'm not sure what you're getting at Pretty Green, that if a relevant authority removes a result after a doping infraction, that we should ignore it unless the organisers update their own records? To me, this part of the equation seems obvious: if a rider dopes and loses a result, he loses the result regardless of how hot the organisers' record-keepers are. The difficulty comes in deciding if a result has been re-awarded or not, but that's not the issue here. SeveroTC 14:12, 23 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I just wanted to comment that the use of the word 'namesake' is incorrect here, unless David Millar changed his last name to Millar as a tribute to Robert Millar.

Major results[edit]

In the 'major results' section it says his 2003 Tour de France stage win was voided. Is that accurate, I've not seen any reference to that. Firestar47 (talk) 22:24, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
