He loved to write poems very much. Many people who read his poems framed them and put them on their walls. His poems were beautiful and would inspire anyone to turn their lives to the Lord. His paintings were just as beautiful. Many people framed those and put them upon the walls of their houses too. he painted oceans, trees, flowers, and he even painted people! Many people came to him to paint their portrait. He was a brilliant and charismatic person whom everyone loved.
In 1871, while on a missionary trip, Smith painted a portrait of the African people he was with. His friend stated, "It was the most beautiful painting, it inspired everyone." And that was all. However, the painting was not seen again. It is a great mystery that has never been solved. People say that the lost painting is somewhere in the African jungle. Others, however, think he hid it somewhere. People hope to see this painting again, as it was said to be the best painting created. Although, it is merely lost in time.

Supposed homosexuality[edit]

The citation of the Avery work is a huge misrepresentation. In fact, Avery goes out of her way to point out that while David's friend Charles Jensen was almost undoubtedly homosexual, it is obvious from their correspondence that David was not. That they had a close friendship that Charles wished could be more, but that David repeatedly danced around the topic and actively encouraged his friend to practice heterosexuality. This section should be removed from the article or use a proper citation. --King ravana (talk) 04:24, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
