I have improved sourcing to establish notability, including fact that he is first Democratic candidate in race.

NPOV and sourcing[edit]

At this writing, this article has some fairly serious POV issues. I'm in the process of trying to correct these.

In an article on a current politician, it's absolutely critical that WP not give the impression that it's endorsing the candidate's positions on issues (or, for that matter, the positions of the candidate's opponents). This means that we need to use arm's-length phrasing when reporting those positions. We can't say, for instance, "Smith wants to address the fundamental unfairness of the tax code"; we need phrasing like "Smith wants to address what he describes as 'the fundamental unfairness of the tax code'." At present, the article fails to do this.

When writing an article on a living person, especially a figure who's at all controversial, we need citations for everything—even innocuous things like the date of birth. This is not the case with this article. I've removed quantities of unsourced material, and may find myself cutting more. Ammodramus (talk) 12:58, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
