Untitled[edit]

A single edit to this article added a death date of 1986. I can't find any evidence via Google that he has died. Removed. Cite, please? -- The Anome 13:45, 17 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm fairly sure I recall his obituaries some 20 years ago. There is an undated tribute article at [1] and a 2001 article which gives 1986 as date of death at [2]. Probably better to reinstate the 1986 death, not least now that there is also the Living People category to make its omission mor misleading? AllyD 13:48, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Anti-Psychiatry Movement[edit]

A case could be made that Dr. Cooper was the only member of the anti-psychiatry movement, insofar as it was a movement at all. Laing eschewed the term; Szasz & Foucault were critical of psychiatry years before Cooper coined the term.

A case could also be made that an anti-psychiatry bias began in the wake of WWII: soldiers were returning from overseas with a plethora of emotional disturbances, even while (in the USA, anyway) doctors had made a concerted effort at the intake (draft induction) level to "weed out" the incipiently disturbed.

In any case, it's a vague generalization to lump Szasz et al. into the anti-psychiatry movement: that's the job of pop media. BubbleDine (talk) 13:34, 28 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
