Did You Know
A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on November 13, 2009.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ... that Darvin Moon, a self-employed Maryland logger, had never played in the World Series of Poker before winning US$5.18 million as the 2009 main event runner-up?

Came in second[edit]

I don't have all the latest update info at hand, but his second place finish in the 2009 WSOP makes him independently notable as a sports figure, so I've reverted the redir. -- 209.6.238.201 (talk) 06:09, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'll do the full review shortly. To start off, by chance I found a pretty sizeable issue:

  • The quote box and the ref don't match up; I read the reference but the quote's not in there. I distinctly remember Chad saying this though, so I'm sure a different ref could be found for that.
    • I think that's in the All In Magazine article, and I probably just put the wrong ref tag. I won't be able to get my hands on that article until later tonight, but I'll address this issue as soon as I get it. — Hunter Kahn 19:58, 19 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
      • Actually, it turns out, the quote is on that USA Today source. If you click on the picture of Darvin Moon a little flash infobox comes up with that quote and some other stuff about Moon. Is using the source for this acceptable? — Hunter Kahn 14:48, 20 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
        • Ah, I didn't even realize you could click on the guys the first time. In that case that's alright. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 05:39, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Here's the rest of the review:

  • WP:LEAD feels a bit short. Expand if you can.
    • I expanded it a bit, let me know if that's sufficient.
  • "Moon taught himself how to play poker, although he first started playing with his grandfather at a young age." The 'although' added in makes it feel kinda odd. i feel the two points could be combined together slightly better.
    • I just changes it to "and". I think that does it, but let me know what you think. — Hunter Kahn 19:22, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • "He started playing around 2006..." Previous sentence then contradicts this one. maybe "started playing frequently" or something similar?
  • "After 18 hours of play, Moon ended up finishing second against Cada when his Q♦ J♦ succumbed to Cada's pocket nines" If you're using the suits for one hand the suits should be used for the other.
  • "Storms Reback said Moon was "out of his league" at the tournament," since there's no wikilink for storms, a quick mention of who he is should be added.
    • I mentioned that he was a writer for All In Magazine earlier in the article, so I thought it was covered. But I've added it again. — Hunter Kahn 19:22, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'll put the article on hold and pass it when the issues are fixed. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 06:31, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Everything looks good now, so I'll pass the article as a GA. Wizardman Operation Big Bear 21:53, 23 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
