Reception[edit]

Apparently, no one has has anything good to say about this book because it is sexist. Well, folks, that's the way it is. This is one of the best descriptions of what it takes for "accidental colonists" to survive and leave progeny. Yes, the women have to have the babies, because the men can't. Yes, there has to be some kind of social order imposed, because without it, everyone will die, and their children, too. And upon reading things like: "It's just so bizarre, this endless litany of women behaving like spoilt children by following careers (at least, this is how it's written) and then refusing to recognize the biological imperative of childbirth and having to be set straight by men. What the hell." which is on Goodreads (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/673158.Darkover_Landfall) all I can say is, what the hell. No, I didn't get that from it at all. It is the women who explain what needs to be done for the colony to survive, and Camilla Del Rey is addicted to doing her job. But if you make everything into a political issue, it's all bad. I will try to find a review of the book that is grounded in reality. Wastrel Way (talk) 00:52, 4 April 2019 (UTC) Eric[reply]
