A fact from Danish traditional music appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 8 December 2011 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that in certain rural areas of Denmark such as Fanø, Læsø, and in parts of Western Jutland local musical traditions dating back to the late 18th century were maintained well into the 20th century?

Well the books I've read don't discuss Les Lanciers - probably because they never really entered the realm of "traditional music" but where sort of in the sphere of "classical music" and upper class dance for most of the 19th century. I must say I think Les Lanciers deserves a mention in the article itself as with the title "Danish traditional music" the article should cover more than just "spillemandsmusik". While Les Lanciers has died out elsewhere, it has remained a favourite to this day in Denmark and can therefore be regarded as a tradition. - Ipigott (talk) 21:23, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well it maybe that the term traditional music is wider than the term Spillemandsmusik which it is intended as a translation of (although I don't think it necessarily is). In anycase it would require a source on Les Lancier discussing it in relation to Danish traditional music - the Les Lanciers article currently doesn't have any sources and none of the few sources I have been able to dig up discuss Les Lanciers. I am not in DK at the moment and cannot therefore undertake any proper library research but Gyldendal classifies it under Folkedans and traces its arrival in Denmark to 1860. The authorative work seems to be Claus Jørgensen's "Ska' vi danse Les Lanciers". - Ipigott (talk) 11:15, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
