A number of disputes as to the canon of certain DC comics-related animated series have surfaced in the DC animated universe article. A series (and/or its animated movie counterpart) shall not be included in the article unless it meets most of the following criteria:

The series in question has at least one crossover episode with a known DCAU series. Static Shock, for example, wasn't considered canon until its first Batman crossover episode.
The project at hand must heavily involve either Bruce Timm or Paul Dini, the fathers of the DCAU (not including spin-off films from a DCAU series).
The series doesn't directly contradict established DCAU continuity. The Batman, for example, directly conflicts with Batman: The Animated Series, so it cannot be considered canon.
The series utilizes the same basic Bruce Timm animation style as the rest of the DCAU series. Teen Titans uses a radically different animation style from Justice League, for example.
The series must use the same key voice actors that were used in the various DCAU shows. Some exceptions apply, but if Batman appears, for example, he must be voiced by Kevin Conroy.
A series/film/comic/etc. must be released before it can be added to the article. Speculation on whether an upcoming project is canon or not is not a verifiable fact, unless verifiable sources exist stating prior to release that it is in fact canon.

The following notes have been condensed from previously discussed topics:

Neither The Batman nor Krypto the Superdog are considered DCAU canon, as they each take place in their own unique continuities. So they, their various animated film spin-offs, and their comic series' will not be added to the article.
Batman Beyond, The Zeta Project, and Static Shock are confirmed DCAU canon via crossovers, references, allusions and staff confirmation, regardless of fan acceptance.
Most DCAU comic series can be considered as canon, as long as they do not expressly contradict a televised episode. In many cases the stories actually expand upon events show in the various animated series and films. However, not every story in every issue can be canonical - some are expressly out of canon - and very few (excluding mini-series and annuals) have actually been confirmed as in-continuity.
Teen Titans is highly debatable, and no sources exist which directly confirm or deny its continuity, and so unless a new source appears, the article should remain ambiguous to its canonicity.
Superman: Brainiac Attacks is not currently considered DCAU canon despite many points that suggest it could be. Until solid staff confirmation as to its place in canon is released, it will not be added to the article.
The Legion of Super Heroes may be annexed into the DCAU in the future, but as of right now its canonicity, like Teen Titans, is ambiguous (See here for details).
It has been confirmed by Bruce Timm in a previous interview that the DCAU does not age in real time, which in turn makes the so-called Tim Drake/Batman Beyond timing paradox moot.

Aging in Real Time[edit]

According to one of Timm's post as wf.toonzone.net, the DCAU doesn't age in real time, easily making it possible for Tim Drake to still be a boy in BB: Return of the Joker.

A request concerning the DC Adventures Comics[edit]

I was wondering if there's be consideration on making and entire page dedicated to the comics based on the DCAU. If yes, I have some info I'd be ready to supply to it, such as:

A. DC Comics Characters who didn't appear in the DC Animated Cartoons.
B. Trade Paperbacks and Digests.
C. Links to unused plots/altered stories.

Well, each of the DC Adventures series' have their own pages. Why not just add your information to the various DC Adventures series' articles? Chances are if you made a whole new page to deal directly with the things you listed (and what we spoke of above) it would be deleted by someone for being original research (aka non-verifiable facts).

Seeking Feedback & Support for New Article dedicated to topic of DCAU Continuity and Canon[edit]

Greetings fellow DCAU fans. Today is the 30th Anniversary of the DCAU, (The Cat and the Claw, Part I, 09/05/1992). To commemorate this event I engaged in a re-watch of the entire DCAU. I was very surprised that all these years later there is no comprehensive encyclopedic resource or guide informing the correct episode sequence to watch all the DCAU series in the order the creators intended viewers to experience the overall story. There is also no central location that discusses various DC animation films or series canonical status in relation to the DCAU. Each DCAU series respective article lists the episodes for that series, but no guidelines on how to combine them all into one viewing experience. I was able to obtain the information I was seeking by reading various Wikipedia articles, DCAU Wiki articles, DC Fandom articles, making note of continuity/timeline sequence errors while performing my re-watch, and listening to various commentaries and extra features that provided insights from the creators. I decided to write an article on this topic to help other DC fans who may wish to watch or re-watch the DCAU series as time goes on. My sole objective in wanting to publish this article is to help fans of DC have the most enjoyable experience watching and reading the various DCAU media that exists, and to easily make sense of the chronological order to experience them to avoid continuity errors, have confidence in what media has canonical status and what does not, and experience the DCAU in the way that the creative talent who produced it intended.

I published this new article as a draft: Draft:DC Animated Universe (DCAU) Media Continuity, Canonicity, and Viewing Order . Wikipedia Copy Editor and member of WikiProject Anime and manga group AngusWoof User:AngusWOOF performed review of the article and has declined its publication. He has requested that I consult the folks that edit this main DCAU page to obtain your feedback on the value of the viewing order table in the article. AngusWoof had concerns that potentially the table depicting viewing sequence is Fancruft Wikipedia:Fancruft, and asked that those of you DCAU fans who participate in editing this main DCAU page provide your opinion so he can make an informed decision on approving the publication of the article.

Fancruft is defined as "a selection of content that is important only to a small population of enthusiastic fans of the subject in question." The term implies that "the content is unimportant and that the contributor's judgment of the topic's importance is clouded by them being a fan."

Based on the definition of Fancruft as listed in the Fancruft wikipedia article, I do not believe the table I included in my draft listing the correct order to watch a collection of inter-woven television series is only important to a small population of fans, or that me as the contributor judgement is clouded by myself being a fan of the DCAU series. A guide depicting the proper chronological order to watch something seems to me to be text-book encyclopedic content that anyone interested in the television IP in question would have interest in knowing. The DCAU ran for 14 years across 8 series and 4 movies, plus numerous comic books and loosely related series and movies of varying canonical status. It is very confusing without a guide. I wish I had an article like this one I am trying to create before I did my re-watch, I could've just jumped right in with no questions or confusion that I ultimately ran into. The fact that you can't straight up watch the production order without running into timeline issues and that there is other related media that fills in story gaps not appearing in episodes that you may miss out on if you are not aware, are all supporting facts as to why the table is a useful and informative encyclopedic content, not some niche piece of info only a select few would care about.

All I want is for future generations of DC fans discovering the DCAU, or those re-visiting the DCAU series for a re-watch, to have clear info on how to tackle the watch, and that the info is easily accessible, so they will have maximum enjoyment experiencing the series. It is my hope that this article can be published and the visitors of Wikipedia.com and DC fans can edit, update, and improve the article as time goes on for the benefit of all interested in this IP.

Provisional support, as I appreciate the ambitious nature of the project, only if proper citations are included for most of the material, in particular that which requires secondary sources, especially (but not necessarily exlcusively) for behid-the-scenes info. Missing movies[edit]
