Merger of Cwmyoy and Cwmyoy Church[edit]

The article at Cwmyoy Church usefully expands on part of the Cwmyoy article, but the church by itself does not justify a separate article - it is the most notable feature of the village of Cwmyoy and should be included within the Cwmyoy article. Unless a strong case to the contrary is made, I propose merging the two articles by including most of the text at Cwmyoy Church into Cwmyoy. Ghmyrtle (talk) 17:03, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image of the church[edit]

There is a fantastic image of the church which illustrates its crooked nature wonderfully here.

Name[edit]

I have once again introduced the suggestion that the name originates from the Welsh word 'iau', or 'iou' in local dialect, since this is stated as probable in the given reference. As with many matters of place-name studies, other origins are feasible but they should be backed up with references. I don't understand why it was asserted previously that this one was unlikely to be true. I know from personal experience that in certain lights the surrounding hill has a striking resemblance to the traditional harness placed around, for example, the neck of an ox.
