David Pearson[edit]

Why have you left David Pearson off of the list? There should be 9 drivers (unless you've left someone else out). He won the 1976 Daytona 500, 1976 Southern 500, 1976 World 600 and three straight Winston 500's 1972, 1973 and 1974. Southern 500[edit]

Would anybody consider the "revived" Southern 500 as the revival of the Grand Slam, or still not a part of the Grand Slam in a traditional sense? Whammies Were Here 21:35, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. To a degree, we also need to be realistic that the Brickyard is a true Jewel, and realistically ranks with the 600 behind Daytona as the two with the most cha-ching. I'm a traditionalist, so would like to see the 500 at Talladega and the revived Southern 500 at Darlington get the respect they're due. Toshiaki1 (talk) 05:44, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Winston 500 (Talladega)[edit]

In the list of racers needing wins for the Grand Slam, there seems to be some confusion on the list between the Talladega races. The current 500 is the heir to thw Winston 500. It's pretty clear if you look at credit in the Million being given to the EA Sports 500. In other words, Jimmie Johnson still needs to win the 500 at Talladega (rather than the 499) to win the Grand Slam. Gordon also won the Grand Slam when taking the 500 at Talladega in 2007, rather than the reference of him winning each race multiple times. Actually, someone should create a Slam page, and asterick the Brickyard as being the equivilent of a 5th Jewel. Toshiaki1 (talk) 05:40, 16 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Crown Jewels[edit]

I have removed Talladega from the Crown Jewels as no reliable sources accept it as such, furthermore NASCAR does not recognize it.

Current sources all leave out Talledega, including NASCAR's own site [1], seems like other reliable sources are still calling Indy a crown jewel as a road course [2]. I propose that Talladega is removed post-sponsorship. glman (talk) 19:16, 15 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Working on Rewrite[edit]

Going to begin a rewrite of this page! It heavily focuses on the short period of the Winston Million, but the concept has existed for some time. We need more references! If you find any, drop them here. I would especially love any that talk about these events before the bonus.
