A fact from Croats (military unit) appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 26 July 2015 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Never in history of humanity was there any prayer like "God save us from the plague, hunger, war and the Croats". I know this myth has been accepted by Croats, but it is simply not true. Now I beg some editor with enough time and knowledge to research and see that this information is a dangerous lie invented in 1950ies. Once I believed in this myth myself, until I found out that it is a lie by actually googling about it. The original story also told about some church who had this prayer written above the church's entrance.....I was very surprised and shocked when I found out that no such church ever existed. And then I found out that the whole story about "God save us from the Croats" prayer was a lie.
Who invented this myth? Unsurprisingly, this propaganda myth was invented by Lazo Kostić in 1950ies, a Serb from diaspora. Apparently, this guy hated Croats so much that he wrote an entire book both inventing new anti-Croatian myths and reinforcing old ones.
This article here was written by a nationalist but I found nothing wrong with it. It lists it's sources and explains everything. You can find the book on the internet.
The fact that Croats accepted this myth shows how dangerous propaganda can be. This lie has been so simple, so convincing and so much parroted by Serbian nationalists on the internet that eventually it convinced Croats themselves.
