Talk[edit]

Regarding the horseshoe ring around the machine - it looks like a cozy place to sit on. Are the tops cushionized? Thanks, --Abdull 21:21, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nerds like it soft?
AFAIK, yes. The ring around the machine was padded, in order for a technician servicing the machine (such as the logic boards in the middle column of the machine) to have a place to sit. In fact, I remember reading somewhere that Microsoft's former CTO Nathan Myhrvold bought an old Cray machine, and put it in his living room as a piece of furniture! misternuvistor 07:15, 11 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
To my knowledge, Nathan decided not to buy the Cray 1 Tony Cole tried to sell him. 143.232.210.38 (talk) 20:26, 17 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It was a cozy place to sit. And yes, the "loveseats" on the CRAY-1 and early X-MP systems were cushioned. However late X-MPs had hard seats.wws 28 April 2006

We had the claim to " The World's Most Expensive Loveseat " . I even witnessed a ceremony where a couple got " married " inside a Cray.

The HARD Covers were a John Rollwagen cost cutting measure. >:-(

Some TECHNICAL trivia:

The whole system was based on ECL 16 Gate Array chips. The chips had been custom masked for the different INTERNAL configurations. Much care was taken to insure that the actual speed of a signal was as FAST, yet as EVEN as possible.

4th Gen super?[edit]

What the? Meaningless term unless justified. Talking it out. It has no claim even close to Sid Fernbach's Class 6 machine. See Sid's book. 143.232.210.38 (talk) 22:17, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jurassic Park[edit]

I added a section on Jurassic Park (the novel), as the X-MP is mentioned by name in multiple parts of the book. If anyone can word it better, feel free to edit it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mercury1964 (talkcontribs) 04:17, 27 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
