History section[edit]

I am from Ladin and I put in a History section. 84.60.173.55 (talk) 15:55, 20 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Frazioni[edit]

What the f**k is a frazioni. The section includes a list of words the meaning of which is elusive. 122.105.153.128 (talk) 12:42, 9 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In Italian, frazioni is the plural of frazione which, literally, means a fraction or, more properly, in English, a subdivision of a town.

I'll complete this by tomorrow Jaguar 17:26, 19 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Initial comments[edit]

  • "Cortina d'Ampezzo (pronounced [kor.ˈti.na dam.ˈpɛt.so]; Ladin: Anpezo, Ampëz, ), commonly" - sntax error here
Fixed?♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:30, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • "in the heart of the southern (Dolomitic) Alps" - why is Dolomitic in brackets here?
this part of the southern Alps are called the Dolomites or Dolomitic Alps.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:30, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • The lead summarises the article well and meets the GA criteria, though if you plan on FACing this I would suggest squeezing a little more on history prior to the 1700s
Excellent point yup, added a summary.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:30, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • "From the 3rd century B.C., the Romans assimilated the Veneti people" - shouldn't this sentence be placed before the previous " In the 6th century B.C., Etruscan writing was introduced..." sentence?
Why? 6th century B.C. was 300 years before 3rd century B.C.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:30, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Do dates from 1797 to 1918 really belong in the Middle Ages section?
Well spotted, adjusted the section header.
  • "Six hundred and sixty-nine (669) male inhabitants" - why is this in prose and the actual number in brackets?
No idea, changed.♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:30, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • "With a resident population of around 6,000, Cortina has a temporary population of around 50,000" - the population data in the infobox says 6,150 as of 2008, so it might be best to re-word this to something like With a resident population of around 6,000 as of 2008, Cortina has a temporary population of around 50,000 (unless you can find a new census as it's likely to have changed)?
Done.
  • I'm quite worried about the Frazioni sub-section, it is mainly made up of a list and almost has no prose, going against the 'jargon' part of the GA criteria
Because there's virtually nothing to say about them, they're very localised places within the comune. In some of our Danish articles we have lists of suburbs/neighbourhoods too. Not jargon, they need to be listed if it is going to be comprehensive.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:45, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
True, thanks I was going to say it would be alright to keep them in - I'm not like some reviewers!! Jaguar 20:02, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • The Museums section is slightly choppy, some sentences could easily be merged to create larger paragraphs and therefore making a cleaner prose product

Rosiestep might dispute that! I've reworded the initial line to makes more sense to cover in one paragraph now.

  • "Cortina Airport was built for the Games, but is currently closed" - the Winter Olympic Games

added 1956 Winter Olympics, already linked above so.

  • Ref 68 appears to the main page (challenging because I don't read Italian!)
Doc, try this one. I put the MS translated page for the ref into Wayback Machine. We hope (talk) 20:16, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Found the page's new url on website. We hope (talk) 20:16, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks WH. All solved Jaguar?♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:31, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

On hold[edit]

Overall this is a good article and has a chance of passing the GAN. It is broad, comprehensive and mostly well written. A few issues I found are some minor syntax errors and some prose issues in a couple of sub-sections, but they could be easily addressed. I'll leave this on hold until all of the above can be clarified, then it should have no problem passing. Thanks! Jaguar 19:29, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yep looks like we're good to go now, thanks for addressing them so quickly and well done on building this to GA! Cortina looks like a beautiful place, as well as meeting the GA criteria Jaguar 20:39, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Jaguar, Ferrara from For Your Eyes Only will be delighted! Well he would have been had he not snuffed it in the carpark of Stadio Olimpico Del Ghiaccio back in 1981!♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:25, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Suspect typo[edit]

Comment and questions[edit]

1. The first paragraph in the "21st-century politics" section is a lousy one and it needs to be rewritten.

2. "When the weather is good, Monte Antelao is clearly visible from the rive in Trieste on the Adriatic Sea."

Is that supposed to be "river"?

3. "Decorated by artist Corrado Pitscheider of the Val Gardena, it is a small church of particular interest given the reconstruction sculpture".

What does it mean?

4. "Since then the castle has undergone restoration".

Can somebody provide an update on this?

5. "The line closed in 1964 but in February 2016 the regional governments of Veneto and Trentino-Alto Adige announced that they are to commission a feasibility study to build a new line between Calalzo, Cortina d'Ampezzoand Toblach".

Does anybody have an update on this?
