I want to find out about cortical spreading depression[edit]

There is not much on the wikipedia page. Is that because this is a relatively new term?

Is it because no one really knows what causes this condition?

I want to talk to anyone who has had a history of visual AURA (or migraine with NO PAIN, but with a vision aura)

I have been told that condition is caused by sortical spreading depression, so I want to learn as much as possible about it.

I have no idea whether my email address will appear with this and have no clue how anyone can contact me about this.

Vasoconstriction following vasodilation[edit]

Isn't that the wrong way round?--82.36.187.206 (talk) 01:00, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If the cyclical spreading process is vasodilation following vasoconstriction (i.e. return to normal) of arterioles along one band of visual cortex that causes arterioles in an adjacent band of visual cortex to constrict, the sequence would be: constriction (1) causing dilation (1) causing adjacent constriction (2) causing dilation (2) causing adjacent constriction (3). This is assuming constriction (2) is triggered by adjacent dilation (1). An alternative is that constriction (2) is triggered by adjacent constriction (1) after which dilation (1) occurs later. So the question of whether the heading should be "vasoconstriction following vasodilation" or "vasodilation following vasoconstriction" depends on whether the focus is on only one band, or on spreading from each band to an adjacent band of cortex. The existing heading focuses on the spreading. A detailed explanation requires an expert. Greensburger (talk) 05:57, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Spreading depolarization[edit]

I think the proper name is spreading depolarization. First of all, the depolarisation also spreads in deeper brain layers and is also found in subcortical structures and even retinas. Second: the actual phenomenon is depolarization of neurons and glial cells. The depolarization is the electrocorticographic registration of the depolarization. So i propose to move the article to spreading depolarization, with CSD linking to it. PizzaMan ♨♨♨ 10:27, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Spreading depolarization is listed as the aka. The thing is spreading depression is the long-standing name and registers more on Google searches. Spreading depolarization does not even register on nGrams against spreading depression.--Iztwoz (talk) 11:16, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Aristides Leão[edit]

For anyone interested, I expanded the Aristides Leão article. He was the researcher who first described this event and there's even an article on how he discovered it. Erick Soares3 (talk) 16:55, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
