What Spoilers, copyrights....?[edit]

Everything that I say in the begining of the first part of the article is established in the first 5-10 minutes of the movie. You know Stallone is a push over, Keitel is a corrupt cop, Babitch is still alive and that De Niro is a IA agent. So, where are the spoilers exactly. As for the copyrighted information, sure I can change, but you got your work cut out for you if you're trying to make sure there are no copyrighted informantion. [18:31, 30 March 2007 Dffdfdf]

Spoiler tags cover everything, not just what happens after the start. Often the start of films is when they are most suspenseful (anything might happen), and Cop Land is a case in point. And good Wikipedia editors take copyright violation very seriously. Wasted Time R 18:43, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Also, Wikipedia articles are not dumping grounds for lists of trivia; read WP:Trivia. A Wikipedia article for a movie should not be like the IMDB article for the movie — they do what they do well, Wikipedia is trying to do something else. Wasted Time R 18:54, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, in that case, get to work. Jackie Brown (film), Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Cape Fear (1991 film), Casino (film), The Godfather Part II, Dog Day Afternoon, Heat (film) if what you tell me is ture, well here you are. And there are many more like these where there are "spoilers" in the begining. Until all this is changed, what I did for Cop Land was pereftly fine, based on all these movies who have similar articles in the begining. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dffdfdf (talkcontribs) 15:09, March 30, 2007 (UTC)

As for the trivia, here you go. The Godfather has similar trivias, so does Heat and many others as well. Lets go, get a move on. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dffdfdf (talkcontribs) 15:16, March 30, 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I agree, the general state of film articles in Wikipedia is terrible. I can't fix all of them, nor do I even want to (I've already lost my mind trying to improve music articles). But I am going to keep the crud out of this one. Cop Land is a lost classic, and if someone happens to read this article, I want them to get a sense of why, not read some stupid trivia list. And by the way, precedence is the worst excuse, as another tough-nosed WP editor likes to say ... Wasted Time R 19:20, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I happen to also like Cop Land and when people look to check it out, I don't them to think, well there is almost no information on this film so why waste time on it. And if you have a problem with Trivia, that's fine, but you don't have to edit it, especiall after I revised it, just because you don't like it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dffdfdf (talkcontribs) 15:26, March 30, 2007 (UTC)

I've seen it again and again, where spoilers are given on suspense films (where spoilers actually affect the enjoyment of a film). experienced editors claim that people wishing to avoid spoilers shouldn't be reading a synopsis section in Wikipedia, and that full plot details are of encyclopedic worth. I say go ahead & spoil...I often consult the wiki when a movie's plot is so convoluted (or I'm so tired) that I lose track.

While on the subject of the plot synopsis, this bit makes no sense:

"Figgsy admits that he burned his house down on purpose, but that Monica was not home and the reason it did not look like arson was that he was helped by a bomb squad officer..."

This is the first mention of Figgsy's house burning down, and there is no previous mention of Monica. I suspect someone thought they were streamlining the synopsis when they deleted matter that would give this passage some sense. It needs to be restored, recreated, or otherwise fixed. Merging and sources[edit]

We can't have two separate sets of character and plot descriptions in the article, that's obviously silly. I've attempted to merge your writeup into the spoiler-protected plot writeup that's already there. You can tweak that further if you wish.

I've added a couple of the trivia list items into the article mainline that are important, but we really need reliable cites for them (no, IMDB doesn't count). One of the items, that the movie contains one of the first CGI shots, would be notable if true but seems obviously false — Terminator 2, Jurassic Park, and Forrest Gump all pre-date Cop Land by several years and had much more lavish use of CGI ... what is Mangold thinking? That it was the first CGI use in a modest-budget film, something like that? Wasted Time R 12:15, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cop Land - The Sopranos[edit]

Does anybody know why so many actors who appeared in Cop Land where also in The Sopranos? I'm sure it'd be interesting trivia at least. I imagine it's something to do with the casting agents, but that would be a big fat guess.Musungu jim 20:05, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Keller & Thaler, Copland casting, have no Sopranos credit. Two reasons for the commonality are obvious. One is that projects with good scripts attract the best actors, the other is that certain actors prefer working on the east coast. I don't think there are so many common actors that any explanation is called for. Bustter (talk) 09:35, 24 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Interview with Garry Pastore -

"What was your most memorable acting job?

The movie, Cop land, I worked with so many talented actors on one film. (note: Cop Land besides starring Sylvester Stallone, Ray Liotta, and Robert De Niro, the cast also included Sopranos actors; Robert Patrick (Davey Scatino), Annabella Sciorra (Gloria Trillo), Frank Vincent (Phil Leotardo), Arthur Nascarella (Carlo Gervasi), Edie Falco (Carmela Soprano), Frank Pellegrino (Bureau Chief Frank Cubitoso), John Ventimiglia (Artie Bucco) and Tony Sirico (Paulie Walnuts)."

Add Jeanene Girafolo to that list.

Add Paul Herman to that list. He played the carnie who owned the shooting booth at the carnival in Copland and Beansie Gaeta in the Sopranos. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.49.162.10 (talk) 00:42, 2 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Add Robert John Burke, he was Officer B in Cop Land, and was one of the Wildlife officers in The Sopranos when the Bear shows up at the Soprano's house. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mariobello (talkcontribs) 03:10, 3 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Add Bruce Altman to that list. He was Burt Kandel in Cop Land and Alan Sapinsly in The Sopranos episode Whitecaps. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2603:7080:2F02:C600:91F4:448B:B41E:91C2 (talk) 15:10, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Who exactly are the Sproanos actors that were in Cop Land? I cant name one!!! As for Sopranos though, that show was done in a New York studio, with also some limited outdoor location shooting in New York. Most of the Sopranos main cast are East Coast actors. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.192.35.125 (talk) 14:27, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Edie Falco (Carmella Soprano), Tony Sirico (Paulie Gualtieri) and Frank Vincent (Phil Leotardo) all appear in Copland. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.61.36.24 (talk) 23:35, 15 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Austin screens film-1.gif[edit]

Image:Austin screens film-1.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

"Borrowed" Anecdote from Book[edit]

In the opening scene, Edie Falco's character is telling Ray Liotta's character an anecdote from her professional experience (she is a memeber of the bomb squad). Her anecdote is an almost word for word recycle of a passage from a 1989 book by Mark Baker called COPS: Their Lives in Their Own Words. Take a look at the following link (the "borrowed" anecdote starts in the middle of page 152):

Don't bother looking, page 152 is no longer available, probably due to terms of the google books settlement. Bustter (talk) 05:14, 3 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm...I just now rechecked the link, and I can still see page 152 just fine. Could there be some regional blocking reason not everyone can see the full page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.154.44.15 (talk) 18:10, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

How do you people manage to screw this shit up[edit]

Here's how the beginning of the plot has been outlined:

"In the fictional town of Garrison, New Jersey, located across the Hudson River from New York near the George Washington Bridge, a large number of residents are New York City Police Department officers. Murray 'Superboy' Babitch (Michael Rapaport), Donlan's nephew, gets sideswiped on George Washington Bridge by a couple of African American teens. Thinking that they had fired a gun at him, he returns fire and they are killed in an ensuing crash. Worried about a possible racial incident, Donlan decides the best solution is to fake Babitch's death by suicide by jumping off the George Washington Bridge."

Oh yeah! Donlan! Of course! That old Donlan, always turning up like a bad penny. What a great explanatation. It's all so clear now. Did the producers write this article? Or was it just a Sylvester Stallone fan.

i tried my best to cut down the plot and may have messed up a bit. What do you propose should be changed? Monkeymanman (talk) 13:24, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

1988?[edit]

Sorry to ask what may be a stupid question, where in the film does it say that it takes place in 1988? 150.203.110.172 (talk) 14:57, 7 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Just to follow up, at about 28:23 Figgs has an argument with Randone about Randone placing a bet against the Chicago Bulls. He says at about 28:35, "Against the 5-time NBA champs? What kind of bet is that?" The Bulls didn't win 5 championships until 1997 and hadn't even won 1 in 1988 (their first was in 1991). I think this means that, unless it was some kind of mistake on the part of Ray Liotta or the writers, that Cop Land is actually set in 1997 or 1998. I know there are rules against original research but I don't think that applies when referring to dialogue in the actual film. 150.203.110.172 (talk) 15:14, 7 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Understatement[edit]

"fails to render assistance" is quite an understatement. He intentionally, deliberately, purposely slows all the cops down so there is a higher likelihood the victim will fall down. He deliberately *perpetrates* the assistance, you can't really call that *fail* to render assistance, as "fail" would indicate the unsuccessful pursuit of something. If I intentionally hit the brakes of my car, I don't "fail" to accelerate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cainoom (talkcontribs) 06:23, 12 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
