This article presents conviction politics as a) being entirely a creature of the right and b) being an entirely negative ("dogmatic", "religious") phenomenon.

No less a left-wing figure than Paul Wellstone was a major proponent of conviction politics and found that many supporters liked his convictions, either being persuaded by them or appreciating his integrity in holding them. [1]
