Control (fictional character)Control (character) – Unnecessary disambiguation. The latter already redirects to the former. – Fortdj33 (talk) 13:41, 17 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 2 October 2017[edit]

The result of the move request was: not moved, and redirecting Control (character) to Control. Notwithstanding the ambiguity of whether pressing Ctrl generates an actual character, given Control (Starlight Express) and CONTROL (Get Smart), arguably even Control (fictional character) is a partial disambiguation. wbm1058 (talk) 02:09, 18 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Fortdj33: "Control (character)" first makes me think of the computer file/input/output characters ascii 0 to 31, made by typing a letter while holding the control key down. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 04:23, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - Redirect Control (character) to Control key.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 23:26, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose as a fatal ambiguity, but do not redirect Control (character) to Control key. The key is not a character. There is, however, a control character is various character sets. Instead, redirect Control (character) to Control, which lists both the fictional character entry and the control character entries.  — SMcCandlish ¢ >ʌⱷ҅ʌ<  02:29, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support as unnecessary disambiguation. There are no other articles on other characters (of any kind) called "Control" that this could be confused with. I think our readers are likely smart enough to figure out that "Control (character)" does not refer to Control key, what with the control key not including a character.--Cúchullain t/c 20:42, 9 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Relisting comment: can all those already involved and those who may !vote after this please voice their opinions on the primary topic i.e. is it the control key. Thanks, DrStrauss talk 20:46, 9 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The control key is not the primary topic of the name (which is a constructed name for disambiguation, not something found in the real world). The control key does not contain any characters and so isn't an a acceptable target for Control (character) to redirect to.--Cúchullain t/c 21:29, 9 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Pressing (e.g.) the control and L keys produces the character control-L in the computer's system. Thus the two ideas are joined in people's minds. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 05:23, 10 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I don't believe that our readers are so daft that they immediately think of a key that quite notably features no characters when they see the term "character".--Cúchullain t/c 15:26, 11 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
