I don't believe that the example of correlating job satisfaction and work performance is a good one. Although it may seem like there should be a strong correlation between the two, it turns out that research in Industrial/Organizational Psychology has shown that the relationship is typically surprisingly small. This isn't because job satisfaction isn't measured with high validity, but rather because there are multiple other factors that tend to be more important in predicting job performance (e.g., IQ).
