Today's edit[edit]

I would ask my fellow editors, as a matter of policy and protocol, not to revert the removal of the issue-by-issue comic-book list I removed today since that list violated a number of Wikipedia policies and guidelines, and WikiProject Comics Manual of Style.

WPC has refrained from doing bibliographies and the like, including issue-by-issue lists, since the consensus has long been to discuss publication details in a real-world context under "Publication history." The issue-by-issue details are excessive fancruft of interest only to hardcore fans — not the general reader for which we write. This is one reason articles about comic-book series link to the generally accepted reliable source, the Grand Comics Database.

Moreover, the citations for that list violated Wikipedia policy/guidelines in that it cited "the comics themselves and the Comic Book DB." Wikipedia disallows primary sources except in very specific cases. And the Comic Book DB is not allowed at all as a reference citation since it's a wikia, and so can only be listed under EL.

These are all serious issues that bear discussing. Edits that violate policies/guidelines should not be made, and if there's reason to discuss this issue-by-issue list, this talk page is the proper venue for it. --Tenebrae (talk) 21:57, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
