The Gambia has returned to the Commonwealth - as from the 8 February 2018![edit]

The Gambia needs to be added as a member state, having returned to its membership of the Commonwealth as from Thursday 8 February 2018. - (101.98.104.241 (talk) 21:42, 10 February 2018 (UTC))[reply]

Map shows Afghanistan as a potential member...[edit]

...but it is not mentioned in the text as a potential entrant. Either it should be mentioned or shouldn't be on the map, no?

Also, what is the situation with/status of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus?

Grutness...wha? 07:13, 2 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

France, USA etc. ... prospective members - isn’t this list nonsense?[edit]

User:DrKay deleted my addition of the Philippines as a prospective member. Part of its territory was administered by the UK. Basis for deletion was that there was no source provided suggesting it had been mentioned as a prospective member. Fair enough. There probably isn’t one out there. But really, doesn’t this just point to how ridiculous the list is as things stand? Someone out there writes about the Commonwealth and speculates about the possibility that a state might join. Or writes about a historic era when its joining was speculated about by some. And that qualifies it to be included as a “prospective member” no less. Personally, I’d favour deleting the entire list as nonsense stuff. But some examples in it are more non-sensical than others. The USA? Seriously, is it really considering joining the Commonwealth? I’ve no doubt there are writings out there where this possibility is referred to. But is it U.S. government policy? Of course not. France, ditto. Others, the same. The bar is set ridiculously low here for inclusion in the list. Not quite low enough for Philippines perhaps, but still...all it takes is for someone somewhere to publish something about Philippines joining and then it too could be listed. I know this list has been on the page for a long time...but isn’t it time we raised our standards? As for the secessionist territories like Wales or Jersey. Oh please. Come on. They aren’t even states. We can speculate about a million things that might happen if this happens and that happens and the stars and moon turn pink. But should we? Yes. It's also content forked at Member states of the Commonwealth of Nations#Prospective members. DrKay (talk) 17:34, 6 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
You probably have better standing on Wikipedia than me. How about you delete the entire guff? Frenchmalawi (talk) 05:15, 7 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Gabon and Togo[edit]

Gabon and Togo joined in 2022. I don't know what the special criteria were in those cases. Humpster (talk) 05:59, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
