Are all of these common-path?[edit]
Hi folks, I'm looking at this list and a lot of what I see here wouldn't strictly be called common-path, perhaps a better name for the content held inside this article might be "on-axis". In particular, I'm looking at shearing interference (DIC) which is a technique where contrast is gathered by two beams of opposite polarization. This page is filled with lies[edit]
Okay, I took a look at this page again when one of my students tried to argue with me about different types of imaging devices. So, much of the content here is wrong, simply put, in a common path-systems sample and reference arms are physically the same with a path length shift generated, typically by Fourier filtering or polarization. On the other hand the double-path is associated with a Michelson style system where there are literally two paths, one for the sample, and one of the reference field. Anyways, this article is full of bullshit, and I would strongly discourage potential readers from taking it seriously. --Frozenport (talk) 21:31, 11 June 2016 (UTC)
