What should this article be called?[edit]

Combe Longa, Combe Longa, Oxfordshire and their talk pages had some deletions by PeterSymonds on 21st July, page moves by Jenuk1985 on 21st July and another deletion by Jac16888 on 24th July. The net result is that the article is now at Combe Longa but it had been deprived of its talk page. I have therefore created a new talk page, but I have been unable to retrieve any material that may have been on the original talk page.

Who knows anyone in Oxfordshire who calls the village or parish "Combe Longa"? It's "Combe" on Ordnance Survey maps, on road signs, in the relevant volumes of the Victoria County History and in Nikolaus Pevsner's The Buildings of England, and in the title of the civil parish. The Church of England may still use "Longa" for the ecclesiastical parish, but otherwise it seems to be an archaism that almost no-one uses and equally few recognise or understand. In March 2009 I think I tried to move the article to "Combe, Oxfordshire" but someone reverted it. I suggest that "Combe Longa" is a potentially confusing name for the article and "Combe, Oxfordshire" would be more widely understood. What would fellow-contributors say to such a move, as long as the page history can be preserved? Motacilla (talk) 21:26, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Combe LongaCombe, Oxfordshire — The village and civil parish are called "Combe" and all Ordnance Survey maps call it Combe. The Church of England parish is "Combe Longa" but even in this context the "Longa" is hardly ever used. Motacilla (talk) 14:07, 19 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
