to VI or BC?[edit]

The article says the colony was amalgamated to the Colony of British Columbia,; I'd always been under the impression it was merged with Vancouver Island. Don't have any refs handy, can anyone clarify this?18:42, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Verifiable?[edit]

I am having trouble producing any substantiating references on Google Books or Google Search that aren’t simply mirrors to this page. Is there a source that proves this Colony ever existed? — Muckapedia (talk) 26e avr. 2010 14h30 (−4h)

I'm wondering the same. The act proclaiming British Columbia states, "and shall include Queen Charlotte's Island". That was in 1858. --Golbez (talk) 21:07, 26 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there! I did some poking around and it does appear there was a colony of some sort in this area. I'll add some quotes from the source I'm using:
Sage, W. N. (Walter Noble), 1888-1963. 1930. “Sir James Douglas and British Columbia.” B. BC Historical Books. [Toronto] : The University of Toronto Press. doi:http://dx.doi.org/10.14288/1.0375702.
It seems that the article, at least according to this source, is correct in it's assertions. Evidence for the colony's existence in some form comes from a proclamation issued by the James Douglas, governor of Vancouver, who is mentioned in the article, "" "All mines of gold, and all gold in its natural place of deposit within the colony of Queen Charlotte's Island", belonged to the crown...""
It looks like people thought there was gold there and everyone got ready to make a bona fide colony, but it was just a false alarm and the colony effort was sort of quietly abandoned and forgotten about. GaiusTranquillusSuetonius (talk) 16:25, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
