Who Governs Cockeysville?[edit]

It's mentioned in the article that Cockeysville is not a self-governing municipality. Is there a city or town government it falls under? (167.102.172.13 (talk) 13:10, 2 June 2011 (UTC))[reply]

Maryland has very few places with independent "city or town government". The enclosing county is the local-level government, which handles pretty much all public services. See List of counties in Maryland for details about this hierarchy and Baltimore County, Maryland for the one covering Cockeysville. DMacks (talk) 17:31, 2 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Washington Monument

I lived in the area for many years..I was always told the stone for the monument came from a quarry north of the city either off western run road or thorton mill..there is an historical marker there..it is not in Cockeysville but closer to Sparks Md..I think the confusion is because the Beaver Dam quarry is so big and someone assumed that's where it came from Lonepilgrim007 (talk) 00:07, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The first portion of the monument was from the Texas quarry, i.e. what you refer to as the Beaver Dam quarry. A very small portion came from a Massachusetts quarry, and then the top portion came from a Cockeysville quarry. If you look very closely, it's not two different colors, but three.
