Dr. Andrews[edit]

Torrey says that the specific epithet andrewsiana honors a certain "Dr. Andrews" who provided flowering specimens for examination.^[1] But who is the mysterious Dr. Andrews? Tom Scavo (talk) 15:09, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Mystery solved! Torrey named Clintonia andrewsiana in honor of Dr. Timothy L. Andrews (1819–1908), elected as curator of botany for the California Academy of Sciences in January 1855.^[2] Tom Scavo (talk) 16:21, 22 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
