Personal Title[edit]

There is a confusion here - She holds a Damehood as a substantive Title and therefore is 'Dame Cleo X' irrespective of her husbands status. It is not clear from the article that she ever adopted her husband's surname of Dankworth but retained her maiden name of Bullock. One would have to look at how she was Gazetted but it is likely that she was either done as Cleo Bullock or Cleo Dankworth. As DBE outranks Knight Batchelor or equals KBE it is improper to refer to her as 'Lady Cleo 'husband's Surname', which would be a subordinate courtesy title to her husband's substantive Title.88.108.236.36 (talk) 09:05, 22 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Stage Name[edit]

The article gives her brith name and both maried names but does not mention how, why or when she adopted the name Laine by which she is best known. If anyone has that information it would be a relevant addition to the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.174.182.142 (talk) 03:02, 15 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Birth place[edit]

The article says that Cleo Laine was born in Uxbridge, and cites a subscription website to which I do not have access. Other sources (such as Britannica, the National Portrait Gallery, OUP's Encyclopedia of Popular Music and The International Who's Who of Women 2002) say she was born in Southall, which is certainly where she spent a lot of her early life, but Grove Music simply says "London", which is totally unhelpful. She can't have been born in two places (!) despite them being so close, so which is correct? As I said, I can't access Wikipedia's source - does it show a register entry at Uxbridge Registry Office (i.e. not proving she was born in Uxbridge unelss it actually says so) or that there is a baptismal certificate from Uxbridge (i.e not evidence of birth)? Anyone able to resolve this? Emeraude (talk) 20:49, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the FreeBMD citation, as it isn't meant to be used for BLP articles. Where is the source for her birth name being Bullock? As several reliable sources say she was born in Southall, that is what it should remain, until another RS says otherwise. TrottieTrue (talk) 02:48, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
